Can anyone tell me about Bumpus? Is this public or private land? How do you get there from Hendersonville, N. C. ? If you trailer, is there a good parking area? How much time do you need to run the trail?

Public
I26 to Erwin, head towards Jonesborough, cross the Noli, hang a left, 3 miles to trailhead.
Yes, at the trailhead, or sometimes folks park in Erwin and drive the rigs the 5 miles or so to the trailhead.
At least 3 hours minimum, but best figure from 10:00 am til dusk - time for a break or two, plus playing.
Go back through some of the trail events posts and you'll see quite a bit about Bumpus. Here's one that quite a few folks were at last fall.

I would not go on Bumpus by yourself, and definitely not if you've never been there. I am sure we'll have something going on there in the next month. Watch the events threads.
I enjoy Bumpus, as does most everyone who goes there. Would enjoy having you join in with us.

Shoot sinkinitup a PM, I bet he'd be up for a convoy with ya - he lives in Hendersonville too.

Thanks man. Someone told me they thought you could get in from Asheville-Mars Hill side ( so much for someone thought). My son will be here next week end and I was thinking of maybe going there Friday, March 16. We will have two jeeps. Is the trail easy to follow? Is anyone interested in going Friday.

Mud, if I get a chance today, I'll swing by and see if the F/S has opened the gate yet. It's only about 5 miles from my place. The fire road is blocked during the winter.

Thanks, I am sure glad I didn't drive all the way there and then find that it was closed. Will probably try a trip to Tellico. We run that quite a bit, was looking for something different. Thanks again for all your effort.
