I wasn't sure where to put this, if it is the wrong place I apologize. I just wanted to share my "new" truck. I bought it from a friend I have known since school. Some of you around Hamblen county may recognize it.

Ford power!
What's the specs? It looks like you still have TTB front axle and I'm guessing no lockers and factory gears?
So when will we get to see it in action?

88 F-1fitty 300 6 cyl. 4 speed bulldog. 9" rear out of a 79 bronco, 3.50 gears(brand new). 6 inch skyjacker 3 inch BL. I can't believe how this thing pulls with that gear in it. I'm ready to go as soon as I get tags for it!

Looks good man! Believe I've seen that truck a time or 2 in town. Hopefully in a couple weeks I'll be making a little shakedown run on my Chief if you'd like to join. Probably something close & not too extreme, like Paint Creek (Greene county next to NC state line). Don't get me wrong, Paint has at least 3 side obstacles that are really fun - what I call "vaseline hill" and 2 large mudholes.

nice
with them tires he should have no problem with vaseline hill or atleast one of the mud holes

Vasiline hills condition depends on if a yota has tried to go up first. I also don't see anything around here getting through the first hole.
LoOnaTik

Are the holes that bad?

Just the first big one - the far end is an almost vertical clay bank. Here's a video of a pretty big J-10 (36x13.50 Iroks, 8" lift) trying to climb it:

Here's a long video of my very capable (but open dif) TJ playing in the second mudhole (actually trying to get thru it  ):

R.I.P., FrankenJeep :salute: - that was the J-10's last trail ride. Here's a nice flex pic of it almost pulling out of the same hole I was playing in:

Cool vids and pics. Yeah I'd prolly be up for that, I really want to try this thing out but not by myself. lol Sometimes I get a little "brave", or some people call it "stupid". I picked up a vibration tonight and something popping on the drivers front so I gotta check that out but hopefully it's nothing major.

I gotta drop my header off at my brother's to get it sand blasted.
Workin on getting new axle seals in right now.
Picked up upper and lower TRW heavy duty ball joints this morning and new tie rod ends(striaght roads were getting intresting!)
I still need to find a speedo cable and a shifter boot for the 4spd, LMC has them for $89  but that is a little much for me.
I'm probably gonna need a steering shaft too, but I think it will be alright for a while.

You really should consider an axle upgrade to a Sterling 10.25, Dana 70, or heaven forbid the GM 14 bolt.

Yup, the rear is done, gotta get the front done now.

Really? I thought the 9" was tough.

The problem with a 9" rear is that it only has one bearing at the outter edge to carry the weight. That bearing will fair and blow seals often with your tires. The ring and pinion is the best.

Does anybody know if my stock T-case, 205 I guess has a chain in it or gears?
It sounds like I have a chain slipping under load.
Bluegill
04-29-2007, 05:20 AM
If it's a 205 - not good man.....they're gear driven. :( One advantage of a chain driven case is the ease of installing a new chain.
TNRanger
04-29-2007, 12:42 PM
88 with a 300 six and a 435 should have an NP208 behind it.
Bluegill
04-29-2007, 11:33 PM
That would be better - 208's are chain driven.
pplblazerdude
04-30-2007, 12:38 AM
Why would havin a chain driven transfer case be better? The chains get slack in them and have to be replaced. Also the 208 is aluminum unlike the 205 that is cast and all gear driven. Alot stoughter unit IMO. I have a 208 in my blazer. Not a bad case but the 205 is alot stronger only down falll is it has a higer low range.
