I used to love that part of Hee Haw... Anyway, I was here at the house working in the shop yesterday and sams_pf came over to get some stickers and while she and her son was here, one of the big Bradford Pear trees lining my driveway was blown down and blocked the driveway. I have pulled it out of the driveway and into the yard.
ANYONE need some firedwood/mulching materail????

Guess we could have hung around and helped, sorry, one youngon called 4 times before we left (he's worse than a dad wanting to keep up with me). Was gone longer than I thought I'd be. We could've loaded it up and brought it with us. Would be perfect for the little stove I have. I've still got my sister's truck if you need it out of your way. I didnt know if you'd use the wood or not.

Bradford pears are cute, but they are very weak when it comes to wind.

It ain't that big of a tree. Most of it is small branches.

Yeah, but they break easier than most trees.

Bradford roots normally run shallower than most trees, which is why they tend to blow down easier than other trees. Once they've gotten past the first 10 years they're pretty tough - but 40-50mph wind gusts will take their toll.

Well my trees are around 10 years but they didn't uproot. The trunk came up about 3 feet then split into 3 main branches. This is where it broke.

Bradford Pear = Temporary Tree
I have one left and it's behind the house (sheltered from the wind).
