About an inch here too, still coming down. It's actually kind of shocking since it never snows here in town. It's something about that perma-fog surrounding the city. A.K.A. "The smell of money"

We had gone up to Kingsport early afternoon - between there & JBO we saw about 6 accidents. One looked pretty bad on I26 just before the route 93 exit. Bridges were freezing before the roadways and folks were just sailing along, not slowing down.
Don't know how many of you are into birds, but we had a load of them chowing down at our feeder here just before dusk. Had a bunch of them sitting on the porch railing in an inch of snow - looked funny seeing them half covered up.

Couple inches here, too.
I saw a small Nissan truck on its top in the ditch along W. Market just outside of Johnson City.

Secondary roads are solid ice around here, including my road. Had a Grand Cherokee in my ditch around 9:00 last night. They tried and tried to get it out and a county cop who had stopped finaly told the guy just to leave it. I got my Jeep out to help the guy but couldn't find anything under that "Jeep" to attach a strap to. I mean no place at all to get hold of other than steering links. Couldn't even get near the frame or even around an axle tube safely. I've pulled out front wheel drive cars that had better attachment points. So since when did a "Jeep" stop being a Jeep? Rediculous  . I finally did get him out with a little coaching on how to attack it, he drove right out on his own power. It's funny though on my two lane alot of people are still flying aorund like there's nothing out there. Seen several cars still driving 40-45 on my road. Walk out there and try to stand up on it though and it's a solid sheet of ice. When I moved my Heep to help the guy, I actually just stayed in my yard. After checkign out the road conditions, I would have had much more traction in my yard than out on the street. That's how so many accedents happen, people ar too stupid to slow down and take it easy.

Ya the secondary roads were crap last night...solid ice. I got to go out and tow two cars out. A friends BMW which had NO tow points whatsoever either....I ended up attaching the strap to a 2 inch crossmember tube brace and pulling from that ...but the bad part is that it was way back almost right at the firewall. The honda accord right in front of him was a new one and they had two wonderful tow points on either side of the front and one right where the hitch reciever would go.....very easy to hook up and tow out that way.... two thumbs up for Honda.
They were out on Boones creek road going towards jonesborough off on Highland church road where theres a big hill. Well 2wd and bald tires contributed to my buddies bmw going in the ditch there...then a person in the honda stopped to help and lost forward momentum going up the hill and couldnt get going again and just slid in the ditch right beside him. I thought to turn around facing downhill and winch the Bimmer out cause it was in pretty good. So i parked on the opposite side on the shoulder to have some more traction on the grass but that didnt help at all since i could only get two tires on the grass.
It was so slippery that when in park you could push the Monty down the hill VERY EASILY. I ended up pulling in the ditch in front of the bmw and despite it being a pretty deep trench in one spot....we had a spotter help him straddle it so he wouldnt get body damage and I strapped him up the hill driving in the ditch. Same with the honda accord.
A tow truck passed us and waited at the bottom of the hill watching and I am sure, hoping to see all of us stuck so he could come make some money. I kinda got a laugh outta that. We ended up putting one person at the top of the hill to stop oncoming traffic and one at the bottom as well while we were recovering them out so we wouldnt have any more incedents as well. At midnight to 1am though there wasnt but 3 cars that had to wait thankfully.
Was fun and a good time though.

So do they plow 24/7? What's the deepest snow that you've had to ford?

That is good recovery practice. So often folks want to provide assistance, and end up with additional problems. Look at that poor 12 year old on I26 yesterday. They had stopped to help the rollover, then ended up getting hit by a 3rd car. Taking stock of and controlling the site (triage) is very important.

Me and my family went up to Gatlinburg Friday night, but I had to come home cause I had to work Saturday. So I left my mom the rover cause I thought they would need it more being in Gatlinburg then me being in Greeneville cause we usually never get anything. So I drove my moms Grand Cherokee home. I was driving it home last night and the roads weren't bad in my neighborhood until I went around a corner and the road was covered. And I did something VERY STUPID and tapped the break, and started sliding.. I was about to slide into a telephone poll so i jerked the wheel and I did a 720! and smacked this big brick sign for the neighborhood... The rear bumper is gone, it needs a new rear door and brake light. I am just glad I didnt get hurt or hit anybody else or I didn't hit the telephone pole head on... I will get some pics of the damage a little later!!! :(

Yeah one of his recoveries was my car. The wife slid it down the back side of the mountain a and put it in the ditch. Then Rudy's soon to be big brother slid into it when I took it to go pick her up. No damage on either though

Driving down memorial in Kingsport Yesterday and I noticed that a guy with a red truck didn't make it more then a foot or two before sliding off his driveway into a tree. The truck had to be pretty new. I felt sorry for him, I wanted to help but my samurai isn't running. Not to mention if I could winch him out I'd probably stretch my frame. :(

Now James what does that have to do with a Heep. All cars will slide on snow/ice if you hit the breaks to hard. Even ABS will not help ya there.
