It is wild, you should see it up close. In the neighborhood I lived in, in Michigan. They would during the winter see how far they could make it across the lake. The snowmobile would sink to the bottom, but somehow they would always find it, dry the motor out and do it again. Man that was fun.

In the northern states they have competitions where you bring your junker and tie a gallon jug to it with rope and then see how far you can go. The newer sleds dont have problems with maintaining speed provided they have a more aggressive track...1.5" lugs on it or more. Every year at home we had a couple spring runs right when the snow is almost melted where the ice is starting to break up and we would routinely run across open water.

This last xmas while I was home there was a lot of rotten ice where it hadnt frozen where we played on and went across the lakes....good times :grin:

That is to cool. I have seen them race like that, but to run on that much open water is fanominal. My luck a fish would jump and smack me in the face and knock me off. Plus that water has to be 33-40* bbrrrr
