That's just plain scary! I've been able to pick pad locks and door locks for years, but it was always something that was hit or miss, and took several tries before I would get lucky. This is just too easy. All of my locks came from Lowes or The Home Depot, and I never have been able to pick them so I felt pretty good about them. Bumping these locks takes about two seconds....

Man, I feel naked. For now, I guess I'll have to count on my home security system and Bulldog

Us locksmiths have been using this technique for some time now to disassemble locks that were hard to pick. It is a shame that it has hit the public view for all to learn but remember that you need the proper material and equipment to make these tools. Then to put them to use is a crime of course unless it is done for lawful perposes.

If you are truely concerned about your home and business security, visit your local locksmith and inquire about the, "High Security" locksets we sell to prevent , "Bumping." Yes, these are more exspensive but purchased over a small time frame will provide you with much more security than you can ever get else where.

Most folks don't realize that the locksets sold at the big box stores are normally keyed-alike either. This enables to homeowner to buy several locksets that operate on one key (some people wrongly refer to this as a masrer key) for the whole home. Just supose that you only buy one from a set and then your neighbor buys one too. Now he very well may have a key to your home in his pocket as well as you to his! Of course you both being honest folks would never try to ee if your key fit someone-elses lock! That honesty is the only security you truely have, as long as a person dwelling in your neigborhood abides by our social rules.

Like many trades we too, have our secrets that get out. Please remember too, that even High Security locks will not stop someone from opening a door that has ill fitting hardware and locksets. With the proper fit and hardware even a "learned 'smith" will have trouble getting into you property.

Also keep in mind that even the best door with good hardware won't stop a determined thief but it will put a hitch in their getty-up.

Hint for all you homeowners, if someone is in your house and you dont know them, it is open season. A judge in this area will not rule against you, if the thief tries to sue you. I sat in court the other day in Athens and Judge Watson, heard a case where a thief entered a home and then was shot by the homeowners 15 year old son. The judge then ruled in favor of the family and said that if anyone is in your house without your consent, then its open season, regardless if its winter or summer.

Your judge better read the books again. TCA doesn't read that way at all. You CAN NOT shoot someone to protect property period. Only justifiable reason is to protect life or great bodily harm. Now nothing says you can't stop them from taking your stuff but you better not shoot them to accomplish it.
