Tennessee Ten Commandments

Some people in Tennessee have trouble with all those "shalls" and "shall nots" in the Ten commandments. Folks just aren't used to talking in those terms. So, some folks in middle Tennessee got together and translated the "King James" into "Jackson County" language.... no joke, read on... The Hillbilly's Ten Commandments (posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Gainesboro, TN.)

1. Just one God
2. Honor yer Ma & Pa
3. No tellin' tales or gossipin'
4. Git yourself to Sunday meetin'
5. Put nothin' before God
6. No foolin' around with another fellow's gal
7. No killin'
8. Watch yer mouth
9. Don't take what ain't yers
10. Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff

Now that's kinda plain an' simple, don't ya think? Y'all have a nice day.

Made me wonder what they really are.

1) "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."
2) "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image,"
3) "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain;"
4) "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy."
5) "Honor thy father and thy mother:"
6) "Thou shalt not kill."
7) "Thou shalt not commit adultery"
8 ) "Thou shalt not steal."
9) "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."
10) "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house,.....nor anything that is thy neighbor's

Compare the two and the TN version isn't really correect. I still like the concept behind it and if it makes us think and open our Bible's to see what they really are it is well worth it. The best Bible learning I do is when I get curious and want to see what the Bible really says for myself.

The TN version is just a little out of order.

I'm still not clear on that,"Don't be killin" ...so if I wake up in the middle of the night and a couple of methheads have knives at the throats of my wife and I...what ?

Tell them you are ready to meet Jesus and ask if they are. Then tell them the story of salvation.

The original language means "murder" you have to look at all the scriptures about a subject to get the full meaning. Here's one that puts it in perspective.

Prov 6:16-19
There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

If a particular translation seems confusing to you, try cross-referencing several translations of the same verses. Another great thing is to find out what the original Hebrew (Old Testament) or Greek (New Testament) words used were, and their literal translation.

From the KJV - Matthew 19:18

18He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

This is the "Cross Roads" I'm at now.
I'm a new Christian (Sept. 06) since then I have come to understand there are two schools of thought on this subject "among others".
The religious left say you can't defend you're family or yourself.
The religious right say it's ok to defend just don't hate the person.
N.R.A monthly magazine had an article about this which supports what I tend to believe.
I want the "Truth", !!
The left only have the one line "turn the other cheek"
The right has David v. Goliath, Samson, and words from Jesus to the disciples after his return from the tomb "one sword is enough", and Jesus himself resorted to violence turning over the tables in the Temple
Please forgive me for raising this issue :)

Something I like to remember ? As a Christian, I have an ?Almighty Counselor? living within me who I can talk with anytime for guidance and the understanding of his word.

I'm a moderate conservative. I would use enough "whatever" to protect myself and family/loved ones (including even strangers, as brothers/sisters), but I wouldn't go past that. Don't mop the floor with the perp if you can 'cuff him, so to speak.

I love the way the preacher knows what you're going thru...He gave a sermon Sunday that really helped...

Basically as above ^ No soul is beyond redemption,
But ultimately we are called to protect life ie. others and our own.
Things happen in slow motion for me, a slight deflection of a fist blow,
or a shot placed so as to give perp an instance of pause to reflect.
an appropriate respose...guided by the holy spirit :)

I really didn't mean to be divisive, I'm glade you guys heard me out,
Can't wait to go wheelin with ya

putting 8.5 Ramsey on this week, and buying a tow vehicle soon.
