The big question is

Put Parabolic Leafs on it or spend the money doing a link/coil suspension?

What do you all think?

TiredIronGRB
01-24-2007, 12:28 PM
What's he going to use it for?

SamuraiGuyTN
01-24-2007, 12:35 PM
It would look cool with a 4 link and 3 link set up

Trail Riding, Might crawl a few rocks. Just leasure.

Probably gonna run 35's or so.

TiredIronGRB
01-24-2007, 01:02 PM
Then I would probably go with springs (easier).

Went down and saw dads progress on the rover. It looks really good. Frame is painted now and the parts are starting to come back together.

Diffs are done with new gears and lockers
custom winch mounts are tied into the frame
Gas tank is mounted now too.

Its not welded. Just sitting there until the motor and trans are mounted. The wheel base on a series 3 is really short.

Big difference.

Its waiting on

4.7 tcase gears (hopefully arrive next week)
seats (have originals and some miata seats)
Extending stearing column.
Hydro assist ram to be hooked up.
All fluids.
get basic Wiring and motor hooked up.
Finish installing body
Sliders
Cage

wow that list is really getting short.

Gotta say I had my doubts about this in the beginning. They were false. This thing is great looking. What's up with the 2 leaves in the spring pack? How does it flex? Is that a rover thing?

SamuraiGuyTN
01-18-2008, 07:50 PM
I don't think I noticed that until You mentioned it. Two leaves? hmm

Landyota
01-18-2008, 09:12 PM
They are Rocky Mountain Parabolics. Two thick leafs with pads between. The orig. Rover spring packs were 7? leafs in front, 9? leafs in rear. Very strong and very rough-stiff ride. Could not find any springs close to Rover dimensions (length). Did not really want to get in to stretching everything or linking it, so I opted for these. They are almost equivalent in weight carrying capacity, but much more flex, and direct bolt on.

Jeep07
01-18-2008, 09:12 PM
Those are replacement springs for the rover. Parabolics. He didn't change the leaf spring mounting points at all or the shackle length so that is just an aftermarket set of springs from rockeymountain offroad or something.

It looks really good but needs more tire now.. those 35's look tiny.

Landyota
01-18-2008, 09:17 PM
You offering up cash????

Exactly what I was thinking!!!

Hadfield4WD
01-25-2008, 02:01 PM
I was under the impression that 2 thicker springs would be rough. If 7 leaves are rough, maybe the thickness was too much. If you have a problem done the road call Alcan or Deaver. They will do whatever you want. Oh and by the way they say that more thin leaves flex better than less thick leaves. But those are straight. I am curious about these parabolic.

BillM

Bill isn't this a Yota chassis with a Rover body? Or am I just way out there today?

I knew you guys snuck a yota part in there somewhere.

Yup dad eliminated the the unreliable rover stuff for 22re, w56, case with 4.7 gears, toy axles with 5.29's and lockers :).

I think it might start this weekend and actually move under its own power after over a year of building and 2-3 years of sitting in the garage taking up space :).

ive blown both a 22re and a rover v8....i rebuilt and installed a 4 cyl petrol rover engine in 1 afternoon once

i wouldn't flat out call a rover unreliable

Counting the original front and rear hoops, what I salvaged (short braces etc, and the new stuff, there is about 130-140 feet of 1.75" tubing.:icon_eek: The longest straight run is about 54 inches. So yeah I have gotten a good amount of time at the cut and bend thing. Still not finished. We took the rigs out weekend before last to chinquipin for a sunday afternoon ride. We had a blast and the birf didn't break until the end so we got a good ride in. The 4 link works great and the tires did really good. Rig is much more stable and climbs so much better with the longer wheel base.

I think it will wind up about 6.5 inches lower, but I tucked the T case up about 4".
22" of ground clearance without the skid plate right now and no fuel.
108" wheel base.
Lowered the seats about 4".

I think it will wind up about 6.5 inches lower, but I tucked the T case up about 4".
22" of ground clearance without the skid plate right now and no fuel.
108" wheel base.
Lowered the seats about 4".

Nice! That'll help that thing a lot!

Wish I could do this weekend. Mine probably won't be done though. :( Plus I have a golf tournament to play in Sat. morning, and a b-day party that afternoon. Ya'll have fun.

Most of the sheet metal was removed by various immovable objects.
It was a shame to destroy a perfectly good Series III, but...
If I had it to do over I would build a tube buggy to begin with.
