i've been talking to a fellow christian on pirate, he told me something that i did not understand, could anyone help me with this, i want your feedback, this is his exact words: biblically, hell is not eternal, it is a seperation of god and eternal death. thats why "salvation" is salvation from death and why jesus conquered death. the notion of an eternal soul, regardless of salvation from death, is actually a recent, historically speaking, development.

i do not understand what he is trying to tell me. is he trying to say the bible says that hell is not eternal?

PM sent.

Matthew 25:46
"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

No other way for me to view that passage

Matthew 25:41

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

Again eternal

Daniel 12:2
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.

Everlasting.... No mistake

Hell is Eternal when based on scripture, and this is the only authority we can be assured is correct on the matter.

The way that the scriptures are phrased it appears as if the soul would be everlasting (immortal, eternal) as well. As the punishment "....others to shame and everlasting contempt. " eg: goes on forever.... torture or contempt would not need to be everlasting if the soul itself was not everlasting.

Webster's dictionary on the term Everlasting 1: lasting or enduring through all time : eternal (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/eternal)2 a (1): continuing for a long time or indefinitely

I don't know what he's trying to tell you but if you are not born again you will spend eternity in hell with satan, the beast and aniti-christ.

Rev 20:9-15
They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. 11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Not to offend you but this is your third post about Pirate4x4, and you not knowing for sure about hell and whether or not it is eternal tells me your not grounded in the scriptures. I would recommend that you spend less time on Pirate and more time studying God's word because if you don't know what the scriptures say then you will be lead astray of the truth.

So if your going out on the battlefield, put on the armor.

Eph 6:10-18
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

2 Tim 2:15-16
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.

I Jn 4:1
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

2 Cor 4:2-4
Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Whether reading scripture on here or reading in my bible, its feels like a cleansing.

And to ridgecrawler....just remember we are all students of the bible. Just as long as you keep studying, the answers that others seak from you will be easier to express.

I knew some guys who talked like that back in college. They would get so caught up in discussing their definitions, perceptions and explanations for the scripture that they often missed the point of the message. As for me... eternal life (or death) is permanent. It is infinite. No matter how you define it, I would much rather spend that time in the pressence of God than any place else.

Again, congrats for sticking to your guns in a forum that typically doesn't accept or welcome that kind of discussion.

Thank you Tirediron and hano, Scripture is the only way to rightly interpret scripture! Those passages that were posted are hard to argue with. II Timothy 2:15 tells us to rightly devide the word of truth, only by doing this can we garantee the validity of the Bible to man. That said, God's Word is truth reguardless of the interpretation or whether the reader chooses to believe it.
