I want to buy a good crossbow. In reality I probably won't use it that much, so nothing crazy expensive, but I don't want a toy either. Anyone on here care to educate me on things to look for?

I have looked at the Horton crossbows several times and my father in law hunts with one. He loves his and they are available at walmart during hunting season.

Try Bass Pro Shops and I agree that nothing below a Horton is the best choice for mild use and acceptible safety. BPS has one for $310. The sky is the limit after that....

What do you plan to do with it? Do you plan to hunt with it or just shoot around in the back yard?

I'd like to use it for small game hunting.

Then definately go with a Horton. You can't beat them for dependability.
