205 will go behind the Nissan T/C for slow go. The nissan had a carrier bearing in the driveline, so I won't lose any length on driveshaft.

Will be running Scout 44 axles to work with the DSD chunk. 5.38 gears & if everything works out, electric lockers. This will take a while. Be patient.

I have read that, mine is divorced & will use a short shaft between them.

Stupid Question what is a carrier bearing?
Also can you twin stick the 205? What did that Tcase come out of?
Thanks!

AKA midshaft bearing

Don't know about if I can twin stick, I think it come out of an early 70's model Chevy or Dodge I guess??????
Some trucks have a short shaft coming out of the tranny going straight back or slightly dropped down to a bearing that mounted in a rubber web in a steel cage. This bolts to an x-member. The slider part of the shaft comes out the backside to the rear axle.

No stupid questions, just potential bad answers.A carrier bearing is used when you have a two piece driveshaft. It is bolted to the frame and supports the shaft where the two peices go together. The case it out of a 75ish Dodge W200,and it can be twin sticked. Thanks to Lomax,NWF,and ORD,you can do anything to a 205 that you can to any other case(if your pockets are deep enough).

Not a stupid question.
There are two ways the term "carrier bearing" is commonly used. The first one represents a support bearing for a split (3 u-joints) driveshaft. A 2 joint shaft needs no center support, but a 3 joint does. These are also called propeller shaft bearings. These bearings ride in a support, which attaches to the frame cross member.
The second definition is for the bearings inside the hogshead, which "carry" the center chunk (as opposed to the pinion bearings or outer axle bearings.
The former is what Rick is referring to.

OK so a carrier bearing would not be right at the tcase but further down the shaft? I just got to thinking about my 89 nissan and it has a bracket that drops down partway down the dshaft and has another set of ujoints in it. Am I any closer?

If it only has two joint's in the shaft it wont have a carrier bearing,if it three or more it will have one about in the middle to support the shaft.I googled carrier bearing but could only find diff bearing's

I am going to try to get the axle mounts welded on & bolted down this week. If I can do this, I am going to try to mount the 205 this weekend. I am not done mounting either axle before all the hoopla starts about how they are bolted now. Going to try to make some mounts this week.

Are you going to reuse the bed or just build a cage?
Country Boy

I am going to use the bed, just took it off for easier access to mounting axles & relocating gas tank.
