President Obama signed a law early in his administration to raise taxes from 39 cents to $1.01 per pack of cigarettes and from 19.5 cents to 50 cents per pound for chewing tobacco.

He is a smoker. Research the CHIPs program. This program is why the cigarette tax went up, the cigarette tax is paying for it. Its a child health care program to give low income children free health care. Its going to take 16 million new smokers to pay for the program.
