Does anyone have any information on HAM Radios? I know that you have to take a test and be licenced to use one but where can one find more information, like what to study, where to take a test and so on... I have googled several things but came back with nothing. Thanks in advance.

To become a amateur radio operator you will need to take a test. Anyone can pass it. there are 3 levels. First is Tech. Which is UHF / VHF. Second is General . Which gives you some Hf Freq's. Then the hard one Extra Class. The Kingsport Amateur Radio Club / Bays Mt. Radio Club meets the second Thursday of each month at the Toy F. Reid building on Wilcox Dr. Everyone is welcome to come. You can get all the info from our website w4trc.org this site has links to clubs all around. Jc, Bristol,Johnson co, Carter co, For another good site search arrl Or qrz.com If I can help anyone let me know. Phone 423 245 7272. EMAIL gulleydogki4aau@yahoo.com The good thing about ham. You can talk what is called simplex. Which is just like a CB. You talk on the same freq. Good for about 10 to 20 miles. The other is you can use repeators. Which there are alot of them around this area. They work when cell phones wont.

I never took the test, I paid 80 dollars became fully licensed. I can operate on all bands. I have the Yaseu FT 2200, I also have it wired, to operate on the bands that are usually restricted to police and firemen. Check the FCC website for more information.
