Is there a place around or close to Kingsport I can go legally and just play in the mud with my jeep? I want to go somewhere saturday and just play in the mud. Any and everyone is welcome to join if we can find a place. Does anyone know of any place? Thanks

You could always make your way down to one of the lakes around here. They are all mud now that they have been drained. J/K

I was flying this morning and I saw a ton of ridges in between J.C. and Bristol that looked like they would be alot of fun if they had some trails on them. Some did, But they looked like they came off of peoples back yards.
Man I wish I owned a mountain.

I've heard that land onwners at Douglas Lake can ride the lake beds. Is this true? I havent heard this on any other lake.
Kingsport needs a mud pit. Maybe I could open one some day :-k

Isn't there one out near Mountain City or something like that, where they compete. I bet if you opened one around here and a rock garden the people would come.

I agree. I used to be all about thrashing in a bud pit, until I pulled my axle apart and found mud caked in the bottom. That stuff gets into every thing. But i still Like to run through small holes every once and a while.
What I couldn't understand....When I was out in Oklahoma I would see tracks leading into a pound. like they would just sit the rear end in the water and lay on the gas pedal. How is that fun?

That is true about Douglas, but TWRA will ask you if you're the land owner. If you're not you will need to show them written permission from the land owner. Otherwise they'll get a rope! That also only applies when the lake is down. If water covers the surface of the land, then the land belongs to TVA. I do know that provision does NOT apply to Cherokee and Norris lakes.
George has a nice pit, rock garden, and hill climbs at his house. I rode thru his pit in Oct, and thru the middle my 33" tires were completely covered! There is also the hoglot mudbog between Rogersville & Sneedville (can't remember where), but either way - you've gotta get rid of that plow on the front of your CJ first!

They do that for decoration so their truck looks muddy. They sell spray on mud now.

Yea, that's what we called it
DeannErica
12-23-2006, 10:59 PM
Yeah its also called housewright hollow,my dad owned several hundred acres until a few years ago and me and my wife and a few buddys would go in there and play. Thats where we also rolled a blazer I had in a mud hole they call grand dad,so riding in a blazer is out of the question for her now.You can go in two ways off of stanley valley, one almost directly across from looneys gap church - very rough way- or up housewright hollow which is much easier. It is a valley that runs the full length between stanley and caney valleys, lots of mud holes and rocks.

I have been to housewright hollow in my buddy's toyota. We didnt go far but there was some big holes. I've been told that creek gets wild that goes through the trail. I have heard if its raining it gets deep quick.
When we where there we didnt see any signs of not to be there what so ever and I have heard of lots of people that go there. Back in the early ninties my uncle used to 4 wheel alot and he run it all the time.

12-23-2006, 11:39 PM
I havent been there in probably close to a year or so,but the last time I was there it legal. It is a old county right of way,so nobody can shut it down and I havent seen anybody that has ever said anything while we were in there. I know several of the landowners very well and they dont have a problem as long as you tread lightly and pick up after yourself.

As far as I can remember it'd the same as Bays, it's an old county road and is legal to ride on. I talked to Dean at church today and we are going to try and hit it in the next few days.

I dont think the jeep will be up and running again by then to go to housewright hollow. :( But I wouldn't mind being a tag along if anyone has room. We got on the trial a little below Stanley Valley Market. I cant remember if it was Stanley Valley Rd. or Caney Valley Rd. but I remember how we got there and where its at, just cant remember the road name, both roads are in that general area.
