Curious about the $7.7 Billion worth of Earmarks In the 2009 Omnibus Spending Bill? I encourage you to research them here.

http://www.taxpayer.net/user_uploads/file/Appropriations/fy2009/FebOmnibus/FY2009%20Omnibus%20Earmarks%20v.3.xls

The above link will download an excel spread sheet that will give you the functionality to sort by state then city; and allow you to see who is sponsoring what.

Example:

Lebanon VA (where I live)

$95,000 towards...

"Russell County Industrial Development Authority. Lebanon, VA for equipment for a technology workforce training center"

Wow, 800,000 dollars for tennessee to "design and plan" and wildlife refuge center.....Not saying that that is a bad thing, but not a necessity in hard economic times. Although 1,100,000 for unicoi county water treatment facilities isnt so bad, and 1.5 mil for Cherokee national forest workstation improvements. At least its not going into a politicians pocket.

If we dig into the bowels of the "stimulus money", the strings attached, and hidden agendas would make you shudder.

yes it would Gordon, but nothing to fear, because no one has read that bill, not even the politicians that passed it.

NC Gets $185k for URE National Forest Campground Electrical Upgrades.

If I knew my share of this...I guess I'd go ahead and payoff that particular debt I owe the government, now.

several states are claiming they are going to refuse the money becouse of the strings attached. I kinda doubt they will actually refuse it though.
