well I guess I'll start a built thread for something....This started as my last trail truck befor the radiator blew and I got the white one to built. well, the white one is about done so its time to start with something that can go farther and harder (and not worry about body damage) the plan is to get the top off and dove tail the rear then drop a 305 in it and narrow the front arould that and exo it all and mabe a soft top. still cant decide to leave the doors on as they are cut em low of just tube it...any ideas?...more to come....stay tuned

Dude if you are going to cut that much of the body off...just take the rest off it will be easier to work on and fit the motor and trans.....cut the body off but leave the floor, trans tunnel and fire wall..that way you wont have to hang peddles and brake stuff...then just build a cage to fit in with the floorboards and firewall...just my 2 cents

thats my bro Matt (colorado springs). he owns rockware and builds buggies off of rover frames. i have a bunch of picts of video of him in moab back in Aug. when we hit up BFE together.
Theres nothing done to the suspension. he runs a (weird) detroit up front and a ARB in the rear. 37" tires...he builds great buggies and is a great guy

ARB in the rear and detroit up front just sounds backwards
Hadfield4WD
11-18-2008, 08:19 AM
Its funny that you mention that. Chris, who owns crozet firmly believes in a selectable in the rear vs front, if you had to choose. He actually proved it worked on the rti ramp at his place. He coud go farther up before locking it in. It has to do with suspension loading and unloading while climbing. I don't physics behind it I just know it works. The trick is you gotta be able to turn so full hydro or assist is a must.

I have been thinking of assist, full is just over budget right now!

I just finished the assist on my xj. It wasn't too bad expense wise, however it makes a huge difference off road. Well worth it.

11-18-2008, 09:04 AM
the reason why he likes it switched like that is, the CDL. he locks and unlocks the CDL all the time on the trail. watching him drive it, as backwards as it seems to me, i can see it actually works.
Jeep07
11-18-2008, 03:31 PM
Yup selectable in the rear is more popular for comps too. It has to do with the rear end pushing or bulldozing the front of the buggy but if you put the detroit in the front at least both tires are turned and pulling the buggy around the corner and the rear can rotate independently as it comes around the corner. That's the theory at least.

im pleased to say there isnt ONE wire anywhere in the rover now...wow what a mess i bet there is 100lb of just wire and relays! oh and the 3.9 is out too! now all the fun starts!

How are you going to do the back? are you going to reform the rear tailgate opening and shorten the original tailgate?
I have a welder, not sure when I would be able to get to church hill... but if I can find time I would be glad to head up there and help... probably wouldn't be this month though... have to go change the xfer case in my mother-in-laws jeep this weekend, there the christmas party on the 20th, christmas... and I work late all the time...

i thought of that and there is a sheet of 1/4" soft rubber cut to fit the underside of the tank. the straps dig it in pretty well. I was trying to push it to the side and I belive the whole rover would move before the tank would, plus the cage will tie it in also when I get that far
