As some of you may remember, I was thinking about leaving the family buisness and becoming a police officer. Well, after alot of research I have come to the realization that they don't make nearly enough money to do what they do. They should easily be making twice as much as they do for puting thier lives at risk like they do.

So, I'm looking at another option now. A good friend of mine works for Duke Energy and has an inside line on a position that will be coming available in the next few months. I've gone to the plant and he showed me around so I could see what it would be like. It seems like very interesting work, pays pretty good and has alot of oportunity for advancement through the company. We will be doing alot of praying of our own on this that the Lord will show us what He wants us to do. I'm leaving it all in His hands. Please join us in praying for Gods will to be done.

Thanks.

Matt, its an operations position. Its a steam plant so I would be running the boilers/turbines, ect. There are actually 2 steam plants within about 15min. of my house and I belive both of them are looking for operators. Double the chance right?

I know them well. I sell the control systems and well as the valves. I'll be praying for you.

Thats cool Matt, have you been in the river bend and allen plants? I was in river bend the other day with my friend and he was showing me some of the old valves overhead and they were so old that they had nazi symbols on them.

I also applied to Catawba nuclear plant yesterday. I figured the more I put in at the better chance of getting a position at one of them.

I don't cover NC. Just VA. There would be a guy from R.E. Mason Company that covers that territory.

Update... I don't have any news from Duke yet, but I did work up the nerve to talk to mom and dad (current employers) about the possible move. I explained to them that i'm pushing 30 and having a wife and 2 kids to provide for and I need a more stable "career". They were both very understanding and excited about the oportunity this could be for me and my family. I thank God for working this part of the switch out for me. This allows me to focus more on the application process and less on how it will affect them.

If you don't mind me asking. What type of work do you do now? I was a boiler operator for a few years before we moved up here, that kind of job can be VERY stressful.

I currently am in the Dry Ice Blasting buisness. I sell machines all over the south east, do rental setups, and contract cleaning services.

Nothing can be as stressfull as not making enough money to support a family like you think you should.

Update:

My "inside line" has told me that they will be ready to hire just after first of the year. There will actually be 2 positions that will be open instead of the 1 they had originally thought. Better odds for me :)
