My worst experience ever with a salvage yard:
I am rebuilding a F-250 right now, I have had to replace the cab and both of my drivers side doors. In doing so I have sought out parts all over the place, from wisconsin to TN. But in doing so I have encountered some of best & some of the worst people ever. BEWARE of salvage one as they are called on car-parts.com or their true name is C&M salvage parts in Coeburn VA. I am only writing this because I know many of you live fairly close to that area & I dont want anyone to have to go through what I did.... heres a recap of how not to do business...
To begin, I drove 4hrs to go pick up a door from them ( rear drivers side door for a 99 F-250, not to difficult to understand) I got there and they had the door, was feeling pretty good at that point because it was so easy ( I should have known better right then). Although the place is way back in on a gravel road, up on top of a mountain & looks more like a chop shop than a salvage yard to me. BUT, I get my door & pay a premium price for it might I add. & when you pay a premium price you expect to get what you pay for. Well not these guys. I got home and the door that they had sent with me was wrong, it was the drivers side rear for a chevy. It was labled for a Ford, but it was a Chevy. Now some of you might be calling me the idiot (which I deserve every bit of it for even buying a stinkin door from these igmos) BUT if you have never seen a Chevy door stripped of it's inners and door handle and trim then you would just assume that it is what the so called "professional" is telling you, which was a F-250 door.
So after 8hrs of driving, $125 in gas and a worthless $550 door I was mad. I let myself cool off for a few days and finally called these guys back. They said "sure come on over, we've got two in stock that you can choose from." Being skeptical at this point I asked him to double check, meaning get your lazy butt up and go see if you really have them. So he goes and checks, calls me back and assures me they have them. But still he does not offer to give me some of my money back or help out in any way. I am not a genious but when you screw up that bad it seems like you would want to help your customer out a little bit?
3 days later & a 4hr drive later I arrive in Coeburn & what do you know? THEY DONT HAVE ANY DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOORS!! By this time I am fuming. They had mistakingly labled the doors wrong in their computers and what they really had were two passenger side doors not drivers side. Still offering 0 compensation for all of my wasted time & money. They kind of sat their & scratched their heads and said welp... sorry buddy maybe we'll find one tomorow or something. At that point I left, it was a good thing I've been blessed with patience otherwise I probably would have socked that guy for wasting hundreds of my dollars & not giving a dang about it.
The resolution: Jones auto parts just outside of Knoxville had the correct door & was extremely polite, quick & gave me a slick good door. So after driving from Coeburn, down to Knoxville, & back up to KY I had wasted 2 full days and over $250 in gas because of the igmos at Salvage One or C&M in Coeburn VA. Everyone be aware that they do poor business & are untrustworthy people. If at all possible stay away!
