Ok it's time to start thinking about the trail you all want to ride on the 11th after the M&G. In the past this has been Harlan, Bumpus, Stoney and so on. Post up what you like.

Due to the dates chosen - I won't be making this years ride, so no danger of another marathon Bumpus ride. :icon_lol:

I enjoyed bumpus in the spring, I will be bringing my Samurai in Oct so I wouldn't mind doing that trail again. What is stoney like, and which direction is it from the M&G site? Bumpus was convenient as it was right on the way home.

:icon_thumleft: Everyone should be crawlin.....I'm in the middle of finishing up my rear dovetail project. Garage is only open when the baby is awake, its not raining, and Momma is happy. :icon_mrgreen:

little stoney creek the part above pinto hill the washed out area has gotten quite rough since i was there a month ago last week the truck bed was also blocking 1/2 of the trail near fords hill. id say if you have less than a 3 inch lift you will most likely get stuck i did in my stock wrangler with out a winch its tough to get buy. so be careful... i buggered up my rim so did my friend. even with moving and stacking rocks it took 10min to get over it. sorry no pics i was just trying to get home i had fallen earlier on the trail and hurt my back so....just thought id update you guys

Bumpus would be nice..... but either or... Stoney does have the truck bed in the middle but we got around it, could just winch it out of the road or just knock it over to where it was. I went up it no problems with no lockers or using my winch. And I had broken spider gears as well going up it.

We'll take care of the truck bed on the 20th. We will have enough winches there to handle it. I dont think theres anything wrong with just dragging it back to where it was...Gordon, correct me if Im wrong.

Correct. I have quite some time ago given the FS the GPS on all those vehicles, and they have not moved them. We still cannot haul them off, but opening access to the trail by moving them off to the side is permissible.
I will be working on the 20th, so I won't be there, so whoever acts as "move director" - try to use the opportunity to discuss the move, how to do it, etc, as well as winching techniques, including SAFETY, and so forth - good learning experience for everyone, especially those who have not seen/done something like that before. Maybe even make some pics and a recovery write-up. I am not suggesting the making of a mountain out of a molehill, but if there is opportunity for learning, seize it.

I will say this..If stoney creek is rough for some...I wouldnt even consider bumpus. I would recommend at least 33s and lift to ride Bumpus. Stock rigs have done bumpas (props to James and SurferSami from the last meet and greet run), But, if I were in a stock rig, I would take stoney over bumpus anyday.

best one to reflect the trenches:

The trenches have bypasses, but lady bumpus is not for the faint of heart.

Well, looks like there is enough interest for two rides - one Stony and one at Bumpus. For those who have not wheeled either - Stony has more laurels/close quarters, but is slightly easier than Bumpus. For Bumpus, it'll be real tough unless you have some mods.
Both trails will take 4 to 6 hours, give or take.
So that we don't have all kinds of indecision - one thread for Stony and one for Bumpus. Sign up accordingly, and please keep discussion related to the trail noted in the title.
Thanks - and happy, safe wheeling. Wish I could be there.
Unless anyone has objections, try for a 10:00 am start at the Food City parking lot.

For stoney trail rides, we usually meet up at the Food City in Elizabethton. Hope you can make it. Check out the actual meet and greet thread for the night before too.

Hi all, I haven't had the opportunity to make group ride but hope that a buddy and I can make either the Stoney or Bumpas ride in a few weeks. We hadn't been to the top of Stoney until today. I pulled Gordon's trail info and we decided to try Dodge hill. Now that was tough, especially wet. We both made it up 3/4 of the way until that 500 lb. 1' high rock sitting in the middle of the trail slowed things down. But, we pulled some cable and were on our way. Overall, the trail is mostly clear except for some low hanging limbs. Sorry for ramblin' on and hope to make the upcoming ride at one of the locations.

Dodge Hill is the best part of Stoney Creek! :icon_pirat: The blue tank in my avatar did good its first time up that hill, although I bounced it a lil too hard on 1 rock and broke the right front shock off the frame. :icon_mrgreen:

Bluegill, your right, dodge hill is the best part. I did alot of bouncin' as well. Luckily nothing broke. I bet that trail changes everytime with all the rocks that get thrown around :) Also wish I was fuel injected...my carb didn't like that grade to well.

This ride has been merged into the bumpus ride due to lack of interest. Please check that thread for ride details.
