i ordered an item online from rei.com tuesday night. it is something i need before i go out of town this weekend so instead of the $8 standard shipping i paid $28 for overnight. the tracking number showed it was supposed to be delivered today by 4 pm. at 7 pm i called fedex and they had a local rep call me. they told me that the driver was rerouted and never even came to mt carmel. she said i could drive out to the airport tonight and get it but that they would not compensate me for my gas or time. all she would say was that they would try to be have it here tomorrow by 1. then she said that they would not refund the difference for the price in shipping since it wasnt delivered overnight and that if a wanted to pursue it i would have to go through rei to get a refund. i think this is terrible customer support and a poor attitude to have. when i have a choice i will not use fedex again since they will delay a delivery that the customer already paid for and not tell them. i called rei.com and they said they will start the paperwork to get me a refund for the difference in shipping, the customer support at rei was great. oh well ill wrap it up, guess i just needed to vent a little.

I usually have that trouble with UPS and not Fed-ex. Just use USPS next time and then you wont expect it on time at all:tongue3:

I can tell you this Jeff. All the Fedex folks around here quit delivering at 6:00 p.m. even if the truck isn't empty. They let something of mine ride around on the truck for 2 days here in Kingsport before delivering it to my house. UPS? They work until the truck is empty reguardless of what time it is.

a friend I work with ordered some extremely rare tractor parts for a couple thou. when they arrived the box wsa busted and parts were missing. its not like you can get anymore of these. the box only had two stops along the way. long story short FedEx didn't seem like they even looked for the parts and 6 months later he finally got his money back, but would of rather had his parts.
was not fun working with them. i had to stay on them because they kept dropping the ball.
I have good luck with UPS. I deal with UPS, FedEx, DHL, and USPS on a daily bases too.

I thought there was an REI store in the Tri-Cities? There is one in Knoxville. Bill is right about UPS, they've dropped off a package on my porch @ 8pm before.

The closest REI is in Pineville, N.C. near Charlotte. Found this too:

Well Fed-Ex lost one off my 35x12.50x15 Mickey Thompsons that I sold to a guy in Alabama. I had to ship them all separately due to their size. The buyer never received the fifth tire, so I have to wait 10-days for my insurance claim, (after the week I had to give them to look for the tire, which expired today) and then they will mail me a check for the insured amount. Thankfully my wife had me insure it over the standard $100.00 rate they automatically give you.
I "should" not lose any money on the deal, but it is aggravating for me and the buyer, and I am going to go ahead and reimburse the buyer out of my own pocket while I am waiting for the claim to get approved. Just a pain......

How do you lose a tire?
I had an LTL truckline that lost a 60" mowing deck for 4 months, they had no idea where it went, then 4 months later it showed up.:eusa_think: I use UPS, FEDEX, and USPS. I prefer UPS they drop off here at the shop in the morning and PU in the evening so it gives me time to turn around parts that came in that morning, FEDEX drops about quiting time in the evening and DHL doesn't even come by.

I have been using dhl lately and man they are great, had a problem and a refund the next day. Nevder had a problem with fedex. lots of problems with ups though. The lost 2 RE express track bars. When my safari rack was delivered, box was busted open and so were 2 other boxes, He scooped up all the parts gave them to me and said the other people would just be disappointed, good for me bad for someone else. Plus I have paid for 2 day shipping and it didnt show on time. Driver admitted he didnt drop it off because he was ready to go home and decided he would just bring it the next day. They had also broken multiple items I have shipped and they were packaged to handle a tank driving over them. A retired ups driver works for me and he says he wont even use them

i work for fedex ground and i can promise you if a package is on my truck it is delivered before i go home. our terminal manager makes sure everything is offloaded. the exception being the package needs a signature which is up to the person who ships it and you are not home to sign. the reason fedex quits at 6 or 7 is because we start at 6 in the morning and ups starts at 9 or 10 tn law we are only allowed to work 12 hours. if we make 1 person mad a day thats not bad considering there is over 7000 packages at our terminal every morning not including fedex freight fedex express or fedex custom critical. as for damages, no driver is going to intentionally try to damage any packages because in the long run that just makes our job harder. in the future try shipping through fedex ground, normally we are cheaper and get your packages there faster than express. especially if you live in jonesborough, because that is where my route is.

I have a time out of Fedex, I even have a big white sign with my address and name at the end of my driveway...it even has an arrow pointing down the driveway and they still leave it at my neighbors or call and say they can't find it.

I always use Fed Ex they do me a fine job for shipping parts to and from my house.Ups on the other hand has dropped the ball for me several times. I had a package that was supposed to arrive this Wednesday NDA to my customer for me to install,I tracked it to find out that it made it to Knoxville Tuesday night and they didnt put it out for delivery until Thurs morning I called the woman at UPS service center in Knox to see if I could pick it up since I needed it ASAP,her answer was no you can not pick it up until one of our drivers tries to deliver it a day later. She did offer about 10 times to track it even though it was laying in her warehouse and I had already tracked it. Thanks to UPS for putting me a day behind schedule, loss of hours and having a customers truck down another day.

I guess it depends on who handles the route, most of my FedEx deliveries come by sub contracted drivers in all sorts of old vehicles. UPS has got worse as well, I've only been having problems for the last two years (lived in the same place for 22 years) I think it's because of the degradation of the human species.

Ha my UPS guy gets out if I'm there to look in my garage to see what I'm building. I don't ship Fed Ex much. I try to do USPS, mainly for the reason that I like my postman and he goes out of his way for me for things.

Don't worry George, Fed-ex can't find my house either. Last time it took them three days and two phone calls to find it. I live in the middle of Church Hill BESIDE the police department, in a blue house. I'm one of the easiest houses in Church Hill to find. I just have everything delivered to my store now. Took them three days to get checks from Bridtol to kingsport once too, after they told us it would take one day. Store now uses UPS and so do I.

I havn't liked FedEx since they shipped me something from the west cost and said it would take 7 to 10 days. I tracked it and it was 5 miles from my house in 3 days but they would not let me have it untill day 7.

After further review I gotta agree with George. A company is only as good as it's employees some care some don't no offense to the Fedex driver here I think he is one that does care.
