It's not really a trail but the Forest Service road that runs past Linville Falls is an awesome drive. We go up there about once a year and do a hike to the falls then drive the FSR up to the overlook and then it goes another 20 miles with some prinitive camping spots along the way. I would love to get a Grace trip up to go there.

I love Linville Falls also. I've rock climbed all over Table Rock. I'm pretty sure the road you're talking about goes by Wiseman's View. It's been a little while since I've gotten over there, just say the word.

Let's go George. Kelly might even go if your there. And now the age old question. Will the Pathfinder make it?

Yes, it goes by Wiseman's View then goes another 20 miles or more. Greg, the Pathfinder would do great because it basically a gravel road. We should get a bunch to go and have a picnic.
All we need now is a date.

I could probably do camping...or there's a nice little hotel right down the road from the falls.

tell you what George. Talk to the boss tomarrow. If we camp, YOU have to explain primitive to her.

I could go for the picnic and would try for the camping. If anyone wanted some added excitement, I could set up to rappel Wiseman's View. 285' free drop. (Not for the feint at heart) Or a 40' & 50' and maybe a 90'. I have been rescue trained and have top notch rope and equipment, before someone asks. But I'm game for whatever.

After dark we could ride over and see if we can see the Brown Mountain lights, I've actually seen them a couple of times.

I would love to join ya'll Sat. (can't stay the night) if no one minds. My main concern is can this road be done in 2 wheel drive since I can't use my front axle.
JKcaveman I might be up for that 285'. I ain't reppeled in about 10 years so i would have to get familer with things again first.

I'm still up for it. The road I know over there is a regular gravel road that any passenger car can travel on. George may know some side roads for 4x4's. I'm not sure if I'll spend the night yet, but would like to see the Brown Mtn lights.

Maybe sometime 9ish sat morning? But, we could leave a little later and still go to the falls. Just throw a time and place out there and we can meet and convoy over. Someone can ride with me if anyone needs a ride and wants to go.
How about Boones Creek Cracker Barrel 9-9:30? I'll do whatever.

Linville Falls, NC, Tammy and I plan to stay here (http://www.parkviewlodge.com/) but there's primitive camp sites on the road past the falls (26 miles of unimproved road).
Here's a campground (http://www.linvillefalls.com/index.html) right beside the motel.

I just made a reservation at the Parkview, where George did. They still have a couple of rooms left. I will be traveling by myself (the wife works this weekend) and don't mind sharing my room with someone. Someone can ride with me too.
George mentioned meeting at Food City in Elizabethton. Just need a time to meet. If anyone wants to meet before and do breakfast, we can do that also.

I usually eat breakfast at the Colonial Heights McDonalds @ 8am every Saturday morning any way. If anyone wants to join me there - come on and we'll eat and head over Food City from there. Happy Trails!
That is unless we were going to stop on the way to the falls.

Anybody else? There's still a room or two available. We plan to hike up to the Falls Saturday then ride the wilderness road through the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area. Later in the day we plan to eat at one of the restaurants then drive back out the wilderness road to Wiseman's View to watch for the Brown Mountain Lights.

Wow is all I have to say! Just got in from Linville Falls; unbelievable fellowship, great time, unbelievable scenary. I'm going to rub this one in for anyone who didn't make it. Even my caving buddy Bill, who went with me, kept talking about how much fun he had, and how much he really liked all the Grace people that went. It was really awesome how everyone had some kind of connection with someone else on the trip. All this, and we didn't even see the Brown Mt. lights. Bill liked it enough, he said he would go to Fall Crawl with me. Thanks so much to George for suggesting it. At least we have an excuse to do it again. We'll see the Brown Mtn light yet.

Tammy and I had a blast, we really need to do more of these. The Falls are so beautiful and the hiking was a lot of fun, we even saw a nice Eastern Diamond Back Rattlesnake :icon_eek: The fellowship was awesome, it was great to meet Bill, David, Bubba and Emma...we also had some really good food:icon_mrgreen:. The trip to Linville Caverns was also a lot of fun (except the tight spot).

Me and the wife went up to the falls, then rode the gravel/dirt road to wisemans view, (thanks, i woulda never know about this road if it wasnt for this website), we came out on the other side stopping along the way to view lake james and all the scenery, then traveled over to Morganton and hit 181 back home. Made a day out of Jeepin. We started at 1 and didnt get home till 11 that night. Kinda got lost and ended up in Boone, then drove 421 across thru shady valley on the way home. Very nice day!

Hey Guys,
The family and I went up Sat, sorry we missed you all. We got away late as we weren't sure if we were even going until 9 am Sat. We had a great day anyway, we hiked to the falls and drove up to wiseman's overlook. It was awsome! I wish we could have met up with you all. We had our dogs with us so we brought the wife's Explorer 4x2 which had no problems on the road to the trails. We couldn't fit lunch and the dogs in the Samurai, so we took the Explorer. Fun day for the family though. Thanks for the suggestion George it was beautiful there.

I don't know how we all missed each other. Next time we need to all swap cell #'s. They worked most of the time.
We'll have to go again sometime before fall and maybe go over to Tablerock Mountain. The view over there is equally impressive. It was a 1 mile hike to the top and was not bad. We still need to catch the Brown Mtn lights anyway.
