Well, I'm back from Florida, not working, and have got the urge to wheel a bit. Anyone interested in a local ride, most any day of the week? Maybe some of you new guys who have mentioned easy trails?

I'm one of those new guys, and would love to go up to Horse Creek. I live in Church Hill but spend most of my time here in Jonesborogh at work. Next week is not an option for me but after that I could arange my schedule I think.
Let me know!!!

I could probably go this Sunday afternoon, or maybe one afternoon next week after 3:30. I'd like to get my jeep out at least once, before going to Harlan next weekend. I've only been up Horse creek many years ago, on mtn bikes.

I could do Sunday afternoon. Gordon, how's that look for you?

Is Horse Creek open? The only 4x4 roads I used to know were gated most of the time. Gates were no problem with a bicycle.

Is Horse Creek open?
Yep, sure is! Just keep veering to the left when the trail forks, and you'll go all the way up to the bluff - beautiful view up there, and nice scenic trails along the way.

Horse Creek is a definite option. Those of you interested in it may wish to consider the memorial service next week. It is on the 4th Sunday of July and includes an hour or so of a very interesting service. You would miss your regularly scheduled church services, but those few of us who have attended this event can attest to it being quite moving & spiritual.
As far as this thread, I have a few weeks of some extra time on my hands and wouldn't mind wheeling a few times. Even if it's just myself and at least one other rig.
I'd like to finish exploring Nelson's Gap - there's also No Business Knob in Erwin. Those two are easy trails, but you my pick up some rash from the laurels.

Did we decide to go somewhere Sunday afternoon? I'll push my jeep, but I'd rather not rash the sides yet. That might be an idea for a new product for newer offroad vehicles - rashguards for the sides. My tires stick out past the fenders, and I have the side steps, so it wouldn't take too much to protect it. Neoprene backed cordura or ballistic nylon would probably work. Anyway, I can go anytime after 1pm, just say where.

You shouldn't have much rash to worry about on the main trail at Horse Creek. There is one fork to the right that goes thru an off camber pit where the laurel is very low, but other than that it isn't bad.

Let me see what Bev's got going for this afternoon. I wasn't going to do Horse Creek until next week, but today looks like a banner day for the view. I'll post back up around 10:00.
It'd be 1:00 at the T/H.
Anyone feel like it?
EDIT: Good to go - no family obligatories, so 1:00 at the T/H. This will take 4 hours, maybe a little longer, for those who have not done it before. If you need directions, call my cell - 423-seven-four-one--six-six-seven-seven

Since both of you are from the north, how about meeting me at the Roadrunner (Shell) at the intersection of Boone's Creek & the 4-lane right there in Jonesborough? We'll go from there. How about 12:30 there?? Time can be a bit flexible, too.

Had a nice ride up to the overlook at Horse Creek today. Don, Greg, his wife & son, and I met at the Roadrunner and drove on down to Horse Creek.
Nice day for a ride - slightly hazy at the overlook, so the view was not at its usual.
No mechanical issues - lots of good fellowship - we were back on pavement around 5:00.
Very dry up there. Creek crossings were low. Trail is in good shape, laurels cut back pretty well.

Greg, ya did real good with that trail, but somehow I don't think the word "rig" and Kelly's PF will appear in the same sentence again. :icon_mrgreen:
