I had some time to work on the rusty ford today "still have not fixed the fuel pressure problem yet" I put new pro-comp es-3000's on it to go with the 4" lift. After I put one of the front shocks on I noticed that I only have 4" of the rod exposed from the shock body, before putting on the other side I extended the rod from the shock body all the way & measured 8" total travel. So it seem that the shock is centered in its stroke, does this sound right? to have 4" of travel in each direction?

thanks

Yes, that seems right.

Yup. You'd have to get shocks with longer travel to make any difference, but first, you'll have to gage what the range of the axle is, and know if it is centered in its range, while sitting at rest.
