I have a 89 YJ 2.4L 30/35 stock for now. What gears do I currently have? I will be running 33's when I get home with the 4" RC lift. Will these gears be good enough for this?

It can be done, but you'll proabably want 4.10 or 4.56 gears to regain some lost power.

4.11?
Thats what a google search came up with.

Solar TJ runs 33's with the 3.?? and has had no issues.

You currently have 4:10s this should be ok for now. I ran 35s on the 4:10s in mine(87 yj 4cyl) for a while but needed more. You could get a lower gear latter I would just try them for now.

Just save the gear money for when you dump the stock axles for 1 tons

Yes that would be the best plan. Upgarading the axles is what you should aspire to. the gears you have should work for now.

Thanks all for your help! I am going to upgrade as soon as one breaks, which will probably be in Harlan the first weekend I ride with you all!

TNRanger has a 9" rear that will work well if you find a good front axle. :)

I've heard good things about a super30 kit for the front, but just go to full with axles when you do. It will drive much better on and off road.

I drove my mine on 35s with stock axles and 35X16X15 boggers for a good while. They should hold up if you are conservitive with the skinny and pick the right lines. It is all about your driving habits.

I don't think Chase will be conservative with the skinny, just a guess
