I just backed out my sons 85 Yota Xtra cab. Here's some background on what all we've done to it.
Rear springs up front, 63" chevys in rear
5.29 in axles w/ Aussies
4.7 in transfercase
Marfield joints (used)
Trail gear high steer
Ifs steering box
Ifs hubs w/Longfield gears
35" X terrains
90 model rear end
Yesterday was the first time out of the basement. This vibration is @ about
2500 rpms, only in 2nd gear. It's a really bad vibraion/roar. I noticed that the center support bearing on the rear driveshaft was really loose, so I changed it today, no difference. I haven't installed the front driveshaft, and the hubs are unlocked. Does anyone have a word of wisdom?

just a idea
how far did ya drive it
the tires might be cold and need to warm up or out of balance
did ya have to change length on drive shaft
u joints
just some thing to check

I called a friend of mine who is a toyota man. He said to rotate the axle to point the pinion directly at the driveshaft. I done this with some washers, just to check and see if it would make a difference. It didn't make any differecne. Is anybody running a lift and the 2 piece driveshaft
in the Yotas? I think that I'm going to have to get a 1 piece shaft. The viberation is the worst when under a heavy load and holding back.

if you do get a one piece drive shaft
Wes is hunting for a 2 piece drive shaft for his grace ftoy

Bad thing about 2pc shafts is more u-joints to go bad. I'd check all of them first. Are you 100% sure that the driveshafts aren't bent? Even a small dent can affect vibration. When I bent the stock rear shaft in my TJ, the vibration was worse at mid range speeds than at low or high speeds. The bend wasn't even noticeable to the naked eye, had to check it with a straight edge to see it.

We didn't drive this truck alot before we started the tear down, but I didn't notice a viberation before. I know it has a lot more severe driveline angles now, which I'm sure is alot of it. If I illimanated the carrier and used a 1 pc ds, it would help the angles alot. Are guys wheeling w/2 piece
shafts in yotas?

Dont know if this helps or not but i had a nissan that did the exact same thing when i lifted it
spent alot of time on forems chating about it found out the two piece drivline was timed
i had goton it out 90 degrees at the yoke on the carriar put it back in time and the vibe disapered

Most people don't use the 2 piece for the rear on a wheeling rig. You could double it and put the 2 piece shaft in the front with a flat belly :). I would just do a 1 piece shaft.
How bad is your front driveline angle? (I know you don't have a front shaft yet but you might have to adjust the pinion on the front too.)

Marty, how did you determine where the right time was?
Wes, I think that the next thing that I'm going to try is spacing down the carrier bearing. Do you have seats for your project yet, if not Frank up at Everts has a set that might work, with the cut down back seat.

I got on a nissan forem and someone there took some pics for me seems like i had lined the yokes in a strait line and it should have been 90 out

FIXED!!! I cut 1 1/2" long spacers out of 1 3/4" dom, and dropped the carrier bearing. It runs as smooth as a cadillac. Thanks for all the help.

It is funny how driveline angle can be so finicky. Sometimes it is hard to track down. Glad it turned out an easy fix.
