i have a dodge ram 1500 4x4 on 285/75/16 it has the stock dodge 9.25 and 3:55 gears in it. i want to go to 315/75/16 which are 35"s, do you think it would be a good idea to run a lower ratio like a 4:10 to compensate for the bigger tires
thanks

Yeah, with a V8 4.10 works good with 35's. If you think you might go bigger then get 4.56 gears. Also there's not too much difference in 3.55 and 4.10, so I wouldn't bother to change.

But if you do want to change ratio, Tanget Design can handle that for you.

With a v8, dont waste your time with the 4:10s, you will just want to upgrade later. I have 4:10s in my jeep and want either 456's or 4:88s

Yeah but you have a 4banger Aaron. My YJ has a V8 and ran 4.10' on 38's Just fine. Once I get my inserts I am going to see how it does turning 42's....LOL

Thats true bill. I guess the main question here should be what does the OP wish to do with the truck. I failed to ask that question. In all honesty, I havent been in a situation yet where I have really said "If I would have had 4:56s, that wouldnt have happened", but there are times when ALOT of skinny is in order.....ask Shawn lol.

Yeah you don't want that low of a gear rati when you have that kind of power. You'll end up driving around like a tractor. tons of torque, but no wheel speed. The 4.10s are what you need. If you want lower gears, then I would run dual cases or have a splitter further up the line...
