No on the injectors. I bought them off eBay - should be here sometime this week, hopefully. I'll need a couple hours to install and checkout.

I haven't talked with Bev about our plans for this coming weekend, but if we don't have anything going, and my Junk isn't ready, I would enjoy riding shotty with someone. Plus, I am looking forward to scoping out this trail area.

We'll see how the week develops.

Also, when I'm done with the injector deal, I'm gonna post up in my build thread, as I am actually changing the setup, not just replacing a couple bad injectors. It's an easy mod.

How long are we thinking this run will take? I missed the last run here and would love to make this one, but I have to work that afternoon at 4. I would probably have to leave the trailhead by about 2:30 to be able to get home in time. If that's enough time or if there's a good spot to turn around that would give me enough time to get back then I'd love to join. If someone who's run it before can give me a timeframe that'd be great. Thanks guys!

tjrockcrawler
01-16-2008, 08:44 PM
There are several turn around spots that I recall. Hope you make it.

Mud&Rox
01-16-2008, 08:50 PM
yes there are several turn around spots and several "hubs" where the side trails meet the main but once on a side trail your pretty much in it till the end. these trails are narrow and two rigs could not pass.i think you would be fine just as long as you keep an eye on the time. you might not see all the trails but you would atleat get to see the outdoors!

Meeting Place:

Maple Grove Restaurant @ 11am

DIRECTIONS (borrowed from another thread)

The best place to meet would be just off I-26, exit 32 (old exit 23) at the Maple Grove Restaurant. It is on the right, just after you exit, going into Unicoi. There's a big chicken sitting on a trailer in front of Maple Grove.

After you leave Maple Grove, go over the railroad bridge, turn right, go thru Unicoi, and make a left at Jones Hdwr onto 173 to Limestone Cove/Buladean.

ok so i might not be able to make this ride now. i got a flash burn on my right eye the other day. ive had one befor and it normaly only last a day or 2 at most but this time it is really bad. i went to the doctor and he said it was pretty serious. he gave me some eye drops that were supose to help with the pain( it was unbearable!!!) i am suppose to go back tomorrow but at any time. so if it feels better in the morning then count me in but if not unfortunately i wont be able to make it :( . it does feel some better now but the eye drops are supose to make it numb so it could just be them. ill try to post an up date befor the ride but dont wait up on me if im not there. if i cant make it i hope everyone has a safe enjoyable ride.( i really wanted to test these new tires out though  ) besides i have a bad lower ball joint on my drivers side but i will get fixed under factory recall mon and can anytime it goes bad. it is not to bad though so i could wheel with it if i wanted too.

Well, we indeed had a blast. The Lord blessed us with a snowfall, too. It was very pretty with a dusting on the ground and on the laurels.

We met at the Maple Grove and rolled at about 11:15. Nice easy wheeling this whole trail. We stopped a couple times on the way back in, short socializing sessions.

When we got to the location of the view, the snow was gettin' it, so we couldn't see much. Just a bit beyond, we ran into a Montero and a Sami heading out, so we did a little shuffling, as passing was quite difficult. We chatted a few minutes with those folks, then headed on. We ended up cresting Rattlesnake Ridge. Here, we walked a few hundred feet to the hiking trail, and determined that a return ride to explore there was in order.

Back we came, taking the righthand turn, thru the open gate and on out 307B. We reached the end of that vehicle trail, and decided to attempt the short hike to see Dick Creek Falls. We hiked probably a half mile at the most, and got to the creek - almost turned back, but with a little guidance from Richard's GPS, we pressed on. Another 500 ft through some thick laurels, and there it was. The falls are about 20' high, dropping into a pool - it was a very pretty sight - well worth the hike (even though I and a few others fell on our butts in the snow  ).

Back we came to the vehicles, and after a few zigs & zags, we turned around and drove out.

We still have to explore trail 307A, and 4365 and subs on the Dry Creek side.

(GPS map added in the Trails section.)

Definitely a great day!

307A is the trail that goes out to the big muddy field where the group pictures were taken on the last ride I believe. It dead ends after a creek crossing with not a whole lot of room to turn around. In Austins Pics up above(second picture from the bottom), that is the turn off for trail 307A. Instead of going to the right or straight like we did, we could have went left to hit that section of the trail.

We decided to do a recovery lesson.

Here's another view. Given the dropoff to driver's side, safety ruled. The tree behind Daniel would have inflicted unnecessary damage, had the choice been lots of skinny.

Well, I could make up all kinds of excuses, but the truth is my I thought everyone should have the oppurtunity to learn how to recover a vehicle. :smokin:

I know it doesn't look like much of an angle, but sitting inside the Jeep it sure felt like I was going over. There were a couple of trees down on the drivers side that were pinned between other trees that kept me out of trouble with the wife and the insurance company.

I think this was done for my benefit. Since it was my first ride, everyone just wanted me to have as complete an experience as possible.

It just goes to show the kind of sacrifices some folks will make in order to better the knowledge base of novice wheeler.

No, I was backing up a slight incline that was a little off camber and I just got too far to the wrong side and my rear wheels started spinning and over the side I went. It was pretty slick. Thats my story and I am sticking to it.

Man, that's not good. I'd look at your insurance policy and see what it says under the "Damage other than collision" section.

My collision on the Saturn & GMC is 250 deduct (no coll on Bubba & the Heep), and the comp ("other than") is listed as ACV (actual cash value) with no deduct.

If it is 500 for comp, also - you might want to see how much more it would be to have ACV - My comp for all 4 vehicles is 85.00 per year with no deduct. It's only 11.00 per year on my rig.

Granted, I am a couple years older  but I can't believe it'd be that much.

Comp also includes hitting an animal - deer/bear, etc - fire, theft, a tree falling on it, whatever. To me, it is real worthwhile coverage, and fairly cheap, in the big picture of the insurance world, plus claims don't go against your rating factor.

Who do you have insurance through Gordon?????

AARP Hartford - policies are issued for a 1-year duration, not 6-months.

The comp on the Saturn ('05 VUE) is $28.00 - the GMC ('04 Canyon ext cab) is $35.00, and $11.00 each on Bubba and the XJ. All are ACV with no deduct. I had looked this morning before my first post.

Now, remember, I am 56 and Bev is 55, and the policy is thru AARP, but, my point being - all my life, comprehensive coverage was an inexpensive portion of my auto insurance. And, it is completely separate from collision coverage, which is quite a bit more. For collision, I carry $250.00 deduct, and only have it on the Saturn and the GMC. I don't have my policy right here, but I'm thinking the collision is around $125.00 on each vehicle per year.

I had a car stolen off campus when I was attending college. The comp portion of my policy is what paid me for that loss, and it did not change my rates at all. So much is covered under comp (fire, theft, glass breakage, hail damage, deer/animal accidents) , I consider it a good value to have, and with no or at least minimal deduct.

Hope this info is useful, and end of trail report hijack.

BillM
01-25-2008, 02:18 PM
Ok I thought you were getting really cheap rates for ALL of your car insurance. That doesn't include liability, Uninsured motorists, medical. Thanks Gordon.
