High Pinion Dana 30

Are all Dana 30s high pinion? I was looking under the JK today and noticed that the D30 is a high pinion (really high).

On all the JKs and some year model (or all, I am not sure) XJs if I do recall. The rest of the Dana 30s to my knowledge are all LP


That is suppose to be one of the advantages on the new JK... :wink:

i don't know the year changes, but i know xj's came with either, my 99 has a HP. I don't think any tj's had hp's.

All TJ fronts are low pinion - but they also have a shorter pinion than any other Jeep.

All YJ's were HP also.

I bought a low pinion D30 from a 94? Grand Cherokee. Same as my 2000 TJ axle housing wise, but different steering, different axles(ABS), different trac bar. Same brakes.

High pinion:
07-up JKs
87-95 YJ
84-00.5 XJ

I think this is mostly correct, I've worked on a 2000 with low pinion and a 2000 with HP. All 2001s worked on were low pinion. Low pinions after 86 are all crush sleeve. HPs are shimmed, but JKs are crush sleeve.
