i'm looking at buying/trading for a 91 toy truck with v6, 4x4, auto, 180000mi. my question is what experiences do you all have with these trucks? are they any good? is it worth 2500.00?

I have never had one,but it's common knowledge they're hard on head gasket's.

The 3.0 V6 is nowhere near as reliable as the 22RE 4cyl.

Personally, I won't buy a 3.0 truck.. But hey, if it's in really nice shape it may be worth $2500.. Make sure the HG recall has been done and don't expect to get anywhere fast

My 3.0 scoots pretty good. 8)
That truck is worth 2500, even with the 3.0, my buddy sold his for 5000 and it was pretty ruff

I doubt it's worth that unless you just really like the truck. The V6's aren't the most well revered motors around, especially with that many miles. For a few dollars more you can buy a newer Tacoma.

a newer tacoma... I havn't seen any tacomas for this cheap. Its overall in really nice shape. I'm looking for something to just use as a DD. Probably even take the lift off of it and go back to stock tires.
Just trying to save some gas money by not driving the xj.

I've been seeing Taco's in the 3500 range here lately. You can find them if you look

I also have a 91 yoter with the 3.0 and has 200,000 +(all original) on it with no problems what so ever..... Great trucks in my opinion.

If you want gas money the 3.0 will not help. They are not good on gas at all. I have a 93 extended cab with a 3.0 5speed. It likes what I put into the tank.

what kind of milage do they get with stock size tires?
its got to be better than my xj with 33's and 3.55 gears...wouldn't you think? I'm getting around 12-14 mpg now.

Re-gear the XJ..........the Jeep 4.0 will outlast the Toyota 3.0

I have owned two 3.0's, one currently in a 4Runner....the other in a 92 std cab truck.
Gas milage was never great, even when new. Reliability...never once left me stranded. Put over 206,000 on the first...sold it for $2500. I was rather methodical on maintenance...so that could be a factor. But they are not junk.
3.0's seem to last longer in front of a 5spd also...in my experience.

If you maintain a 3.0 it will not leave you stranded. They are a little under powered but with alittle work can be a great little motor. I have owned 5 trucks so far with the 3.0 and none let me done a bit. I sold my red toyota for 4600 with 212k.

Did you keep any of them long enough to have one break down?
