I friend and me went onto my uncle's property exploring on an old road/trail and his Toyota slid off the bank sorta similar to Gub Ni's Bronco at Bay's that time, but alot steeper. We need to know where we could get some help pulling it out, It would be a little good trail ride and a recovery if anyone could help or know of someone who could help. We really dont have the proper equipment to pull it out. It is in Fort Blackmore. We are going to try to get it tomorrow 11/24/07, Any help or knowledge on a how to would be greatly appreciated. The vehicle that is stuck is a Mid 90's Toyota Pickup. Stock. Thanks

I just got off the phone with him and it sounds like he's going to need at least two rigs to pull this off.

Where is Fort Blackmore?

Where is Fort Blackmore?

It's about 20 miles north of Gate City, VA

Gubni

That's pretty far for me. Hopefully someone up that way can help. If a stock truck made it there a tow truck should be able to also. You might look for a farmer that has a tractor that could help. If you had to maybe you could rent some kind of equipment like a bobcat or such. Chain the bobcat to a tree and then chain the truck the to bucket and lift the bucket to pull it out?

You are going to need at least one rig with a winch and another to use as a holding point. 2 rigs with a winch would be better. I have no winch so not sure I could be much help. Let's see who else pops on here and posts.

I dont have a winch but will help in anyway i can...

Aren't there any trees near by. If so then chain one rig with a winch to a tree so you don't need a second anchor vehicle.

Another thought is you could buy a cheap chain fall like for lifting engines and such and use it like a come-a-long.

J-Man
11-23-2007, 10:02 PM
What do you all think about maybe using 2 and 3 ton comalongs to try to pull it out with. Do you think that would help or work? If anyone would be interested in going to help we are leaving from Gate City in the morning to try something. Knowledge may be better than tools. Thanks

BillM
11-23-2007, 10:03 PM
Well that is true. I have chain and a come-a-long. Well if my chains are still here.

J-Man
11-23-2007, 10:03 PM
There are plenty of trees on the upper side of the truck.

Sorry it is so late, I would be glad to help.

Gubni
11-23-2007, 10:11 PM
Make sure you don't stress the come-a-long. You will feel the point where it gets much harder to to pull. Stop at that point so you don't break something. Also be carefull what you attach to.

OK, I have talked to Michael and we are going to meet at Gate City High School at 9:00 a.m. in the morning. I am going to trailer my YJ to the farm and then drive from there. I will be bringing whatever I can find that will help with this.

Greenrover are you still going to come? Need to know who to expect. Tried calling Ben and Wes but it went to vmail. If someone wants to go but not drive, then come to my house and you can ride with me. If you have a tow strap and that sort of thing then bring it with you. I will leave my house around 8:30.

I wish I'd known this happened earlier. I'd let you guys borrow some recovery gear if nothing else. I'll be out of town(wheelin) till 5 or 6. If for some odd reason you guys still need help my rig will be on the trailer, just call me.

This is really cool that we can come together as a club and help someone like this.

fred
11-24-2007, 09:44 AM
Well I can't picture exactly how it is sitting but it sounde like it is rolled over. As many come-alongs, chains, straps, and rigs you can SAFELY get into the area is best for this. It sounds like it will be pull a little chain or strap to hold ion place, come-along or tug some more, and chain until in place.

KEEP IN MIND if it has been upside down sittin glike that overnight DO NOT try to start the rig untill it is on flat ground and you checked all the vital fluids. It more than likely won't start right away anyway but thats all you need is to run it with gas all over and no oil in it.

I'm praying that all goes well for this team effort.

Well we got back in there (beautiful ride btw) and got to the point where the truck was stuck. It was a heck of a drop off on the driver side. This was not a creek btw, it is a tributary of the Clinch River. Much wider. Dry as a bone too. Anyway, we tied off the front (waste of time) and then used a snatch block and strap around a tree then hooked to the frame behind the passenger tire and just pulled it right back up on the trail. Backed her down to a spot where we could turn her around and BINGO!!!! We were good to go. Got to play in some rocks on the way out. Some pics will follow I am sure.

The Lord was watching - another couple of inches and that Yota woulda ended up at the bottom. About a 12? drop, I?d say.

These are the two shots I got ? believe someone got a few from below.

The trail crosses the stream in 6 or 8 places, kinda like Horse Creek, but much nicer rocks to cross.

First of all. I thank everyone for their help on here for helping out in this recovery. Wether it be PRAYERS, suggestions, tools, bodies, rigs, etc. I especially thank God, Bill "Solar TJ" Wes "Jeep07" Gordon "Gordon". It was very short notice and you all had to give up a Saturday to come help us out. You all are a great TESTIMONY to the Grace 4x4 site and Club, Because of your GRACIOUS attitude you have really helped out my friend and touched my Uncle and Aunt. We stopped off to let them know we where out of there and they just couldnt believe that you guys where so Open Hearted. They were astonished so to say. They saw you all going down the road and your rigs and couldnt believe that you would bring all that just to help someone in need. You didnt get a chance to meet them, but you guys planted a big seed in their heart, My aunt recieved at least 3 phone calls while we where there and was telling everyone that a Christian centered Off road club came and pulled Michael's truck out. I have some info on the subject we had talked about at the end of the Recovery  I'll send that out a little later. Sometime when we get back over there they would like to meet you guys.

It was a great time and good fellowship. Everything went smooth thanks to God's Grace, Good Knowledge and Good Rigs. I have some pictures I took. Thanks Again and God Bless.
