Got a friend with a cherokee that has a blown 2.8. He needs something easy to bolt in and doesn't want to convert.

arent those the same as the GM 2.8's? if so, a 3.1 or 3.4 should swap in, and add some power to boot.

Yes, but needs to be RWD - maybe out of a Camaro.

Yes, anything like that would be nice. 3.4 would be ideal, but need to keep it reasonably priced.

I sold a MJ with 2.8 auto to a salvage yard near Chilhowie ,Va.this past summer.He said he was going to remove the 2.8 and replace it with a V-8.You might get it cheap.I-81 north to exit 35,left then about 4 miles to the caution light,turn left,yard on the left.
