I've never been there, so I'm not 100% sure where to turn, but I think there is a sign and that I turn left coming from Damascus. Am I correct? Anyone else coming from the Kingsport (Hwy 11W) area want to convoy up there? I'm near the DMV office.

I have always gone through Erwin. I would like to know how to get through there using Damascus. Hey Ken You know I'll pool with ya. Gotta have someone that I can keep up with.

bansil

From Damascus after you get into TN and have driven a few miles..you'll drive by the (silver spring?or grove store) store/gas station on the right, then keep driving til' you see 2 billboards on the right,1 is for a bank, these are right before a right downhill turn in road, put left blinker on as you crest the hill and the road goes right, you'll turn left in the corner onto furnace creek road.there is a sign that says Callalantee ATV's.

From Hampton you'll roll on 67/321 all the way to Mtn City. At 1st light
this is intersection of 421,go straight thru light and town (a couple lights)
the road kinda deadends etc. at the last light this is 91,turn left, you'll see a FoodCountry in front of you. It's about 2 miles out of town, what the 30 mile speed trap........it's long.......when you see the 45mph sign you are only a few turns in the road away. You'll see the road turn to the left and a sign on the right that says Callalantee ATV turn right onto Furnace Creek Road.

Follow Furnace Creek Road and you'll come to a right turn over the creek,it's very obvious and you'll see a stop sign that say's to pay before off loading. Go up to the building and speak w/Ronny.

If he's not there drive up towards the left thru the parking lot,you should see my black rodeo w/trailer behind it.

Don't know my plans for that weekend yet....

bansil
11-06-2007, 01:38 PM
everyone is welcome,it's not vehicle specific.

The trails we'll do will be:

Welder....it's basically a fun run thru the creek and woods....rocks very little mud.........we have taken stock Amigo's and Jeeps thru it......there are just a few places you need to be careful in a rig to not get damage.
On welder we'll wait and let folks try the waterfall.......and then up welder
to easyout and once again we'll let folks attempt this.....then on out of welder, there is a little water and some steep smooth downhills.

Then we'll probabley run over and let a few folks play on Armorall and little tellico........pull cable can be a long day.

We'll run a trail I forget that is pretty this time of year nothing hard just a few pucker areas and lot's of senery.

We'll probabley go out for a night run if you all are still hanging around
we'll wander around for a couple hours after the sun goes down......

we can defin. change trails and even point some folks in other directions
'if need be so everyone has fun.

We will have a couple seats open...........

bansil
11-06-2007, 01:40 PM
ugh after reading that....I made it sound like welder is easy it's not welder isn't that hard for a good driver but it can be very hard if you pick the wrong line..........if you mess up you can hit some rocks..........hardest spot is at the entrance.........

EDIT: Just spoke with my wife, and she liked the toys for tots idea, for once I will be able to get her out on the trail without much of a fuss!!!

There isn't much of "my side" of Bristol. But I checked and it is. Awesome, I'll only have to leave around 6:00 instead of 5:00. Looks just across the border into TN.

Hey y'all, thanks for letting the group from AORC catch up and donate some toys to the cause. It was fun riding with the group. Thanks for the invite Doug.

Here are a few pics we took today. The rest are in the bucket.

This guy can drive. I couldn't shake him all day long. :P Sherry kept looking back to see if Mike made it through the last rough section of trail. I didn't have to look, I knew he was coming. He made tight hair pin turns easier in that truck than I did in my Jeep.

This weekend was a huge success. Thanks to all this is a very long post about saturday only enjoy,no pics but others have some.

Thanks to NCKRAWLERS ,AORC ,and grace members for their support.

Over 20 toys and enough money to buy 8-10 more was collected. That is so awesome.

We are so grateful for the support that we (Team Turtle) received in our goal to start and supply the very first
Christmas toy program for Mountain City/Johnson Co. Tennessee.

We have a lot of work to do in the next 2weeks, starting tomorrow with a trip to Wally world to buy more gifts!!!!!

Anyways onto the 1st Toy's for Rock's program (this will go on in several areas, states etc. as it catches on)
YOU--------->as the adventurer, weekend wrencher, supplier of all broken spicer parts...........YOU have the opportunity to exchange
A toy for a rock.........ha-ha just kidding.........you will be able play on the rock's with friends, family and strangers (who will probably become your friends)
and help a child have a smile on their face come Christmas time..........even one extra smile is worth it!!!!!!!

The NCKRAWLERS decided to ride at Callantee a few months ago, we (Team Turtle) where invited to join them for a weekend of wheeling'.

I came up with an idea to give joy and smiles to kids at Christmas, something I've wanted to do for so long, so I got hold of JoeD. And he spread the word to the NCKRAWLERS..........it was a hit......they are all about wheeling' and giving to local kids.......I arranged for a free trail pass for them and us.....

Fast-forward to Friday, I meet the NCKRAWLERS for the first time this weekend and I have to say they are a standup club of men/women that opened their hearts to help an awesome cause, they actually traveled between 4-7 hours to wheel, have fun, show us some serious carnage!! and give a smile to a child that wouldn't have a smile or grin come the 25th of Dec.(the Krawlers do this every weekend between turkey day and Christmas, they are truly awesome people, my hat's off to them~~~

On Saturday morning we awoke to about 20*,ice and left over snow from the night before, someone said "who own's the red ford?, I answered with "those are members of 4x4grace" and then a few more members rolled in, it was really good to see their support and a special thank you to them.:) soon we were greeted by a convoy of various jeeps and an old skool bronco, I walked up as they were unloading and found out they were part of AORC ,cool,,,,,,we had spoke on grace and they said they were coming up to wheel and show their support(great group of guy's and gal's they drove upwards of 2-5 hours to wheel and break--->more later)..........wow.........
We where now up to over 20 rigs...........they ranged from a stock liberty (cati'-green ;)) to a few 1ton ZR2's ohh we can't forget the M38----straight out
of the movie Patton....way cool no top, windshield down and steel pot covering the wool beanie..........can't get no cooler than that (literally)

We headed for Welder at ~9:45 the bronco in the lead(no top or doors very cool) and me in Lowrider on his tail.......topless as usual......
The first obsticle is like 50' into the trail it's the gate keeper....a large rock in the middle of the trail, you either straddle it or put tire on it and then use your skiders to grind across it.....the bronco just drove over it......I had to go around it on the high side....I'm too short....well all was going good til she decided
to give greenrover a closeup view of it,,,,,,,,,,yup,I was once again on my side, and crap I stalled it,fired it backup and into reverse I went which let it
fall back over, then 1st gear and we pivited around the rock...........we where not to be denied...........
every one else just drove over it.......I made it look hard......and everone else made it look easy hahaha.......go figure.

Next stop was at the waterfall.......lot's of tries followed by failed attempts,a fj40 type buggy broke a 3/4" upper heim joint,fixiable.........then he later stripped all the teeth off his ringgear..........

A cj tried the wall.........no dice......waterfall somewhere near 8, vehicles 2, the cj limped away with a split gas tank........ouch and at $3 a gallon...
the 1 of 2 was from a built ZR2 the v-6 sounds like an 8....he tried to crawl it,it don't think so.... back up and "bump-it"
nope "bump it some more".......holy----!!!................with the 42 irocs spinning and the motor on the rev limiter he launched it............smooth........it was violent but so graceful...........

a few other rigs tried
..... an Isuzu trooper on D44's and 36's.........valiant and determined.........but nope
.....a ZR2 blazer on 42's............nope, but wow!! what a show..........so close...........it's hard to cheer 'cause you're not sure if you want him to roll----->for the visually stimulation or make it look easy...........still denied....
....a few cherokees ..........one a silverish one with a now broken mirror, running smaller swampers was giving it all it had but in the end..........strap-it...........
.....1 ton dodge on 42's.........after afew attemps he say'd------poo on this........and hammer'd the throttle....it was violent but ooohhhh soooo-cool.....2of2

next we ran up the V-notch lots of flexing from the rigs that straddled the uphill climb, other rigs just dropped into it drove up it with mirrors folded in,others bypassed it......but we have a highlite ;)~............mike gave it everything the ford had but.........he grinded to a stop on his diffs, frame etcc.......he had to back down using lot's of throttle ......yeah lot's it almost reminded me of a dirttrack race..........get some.

We again wander'd up the trail til we got to "easy-out" I pulled past and was followed by the M38,the Turtle etc........but some red ford (hint hint wink wink)
followed one of the 1ton trucks into the entrance........not sure........... but he's got a set............he wisely backed into a tree......oops backed out on a tree, not sure exactly but his passengerside bed rail and side where relocated(don't forget chicks really do dig body damage)

So it's time to watch the rigs assault the 3ft' wall...............1st the bronco..........easy,,,easy,,,,BANG!!! oops the bumper is a little wide/low..........so we put
a small rock under the left front tire,he got the front tires up on top......but the rear wouldn't go...a few tries........he was dragging bottom.........hitting the right bumper into the wall........he back'd up to the edge of the wall......I next heard a 4bl openup...tires spinning and that horse hit the wall and.......Pop!!
it was up and throttle was shutdown............."clapping".."good show"........not sure what order the next events happened in but the shows put on by the 2 ZR2's was dramatic and oh,so elegant......very liberal uses of 42's and lot's of throttle........next was a red jeep he ended up hitting it kinda hard (full throttle ;)~ ) but he had to work at harder with the shorter wheelbase..............Joe pulled up in the Trooper...........tried to crawl it ............nope.....he backed up and actually used some throttle and pop'd right up....good job..................I am probably the only Isuzu person to ever see that hahahahaha ........next a cherokee......same silver one as above..............he actually made it look easy.........as he bumped and spun his way to the top.......good job it looked nice.........

I had to go up front at this time to move the group forward since I was noe the leader............while I was gone another jeep or cherokee broke a driveshaft on the ledge....

We rambl'ed up to the upper rockroad and as I fought my way up the hill,MamaTurtle came on and said the bronco was down with a broke front u-joint....
he unlocked his hubs and let the monster ZR2 blazer pull him up the trail, too the top from ther on out it was downhill and he road it out in 2wd.....we ran down the mountain zigin'and zagin' til' we got to the end 120* downhill turn to the left it atleast a 2 point turn or 30 point turn........no sneaking by this one,it's a 100' drop down off the ledge,so I spent time spotting the ledge for everyone.........two turns and a creek crossing later we where at the big hill climb and intersection.
As we settled in for a group photo,etc...........the lure of the hill caught someone's eye..................and son let me tell you.....it was on......

the ZR2 p/u approached the hill kinda mello,he made it about 25' and spinning he slid back............next try....more throttle...........maybe 1/3 way up......it kicks sideways a little..........crowd.........ooohs and aughhhsss!!!!!! he slid's back down............now he is getting obsessed and the crowd is acting like hungry
piranha's..............wanting him to just get it...we...we .....know he can make it................50' back this time you hear it shift to 2nd gear........it's on!!!!!!!!!!!!
he makes it 1/2 way...........and bounces and skids and slids down the hill..................everyone is pumped.......................he backs up even further.......there's yelling, fist's being raised, the women are holding their children.......................it was like being at an nhra event..............5000rpm............shift....... ...5000rpm.....shift..................oh crap!!!!! 5000rpm shift he hit the hill in third gear and is just plan getting it.......everyone is cheering..............go,go,go...........UGH---OHH!!!!!...........................yep............ UGH---OHH!!!!!!...he already had shifted back to 2nd as he hit the bottom of the hill.............against the rev limiter he climbs/shoots/flies.........whatever..........and over 2/3 of the way up he launches all 4 tires into the air and lands sideways and then as wide open throttle propells him back into the air the other way............the 42's are now under control..........of noone............. it jumps back to the left and .......POP!!!!!!!.......Carnage ........lot's of it...........oh.heck.........he's sliding backwards at like 20mph with both front tires toe-d in like 2 feet.........something broke.................as he slid to the bottom.....we saw it.............ouch! broken ford knuckle..........and other carnage.........good thing he was going to go with dedenbear this winter...........
Pulled off the tie-rod and used a 60" hi-lift jack, two bolts from his upper coil-overs and bolted into place of the tie-rod.Then ratchet straped the broken upper knuckle back into place and sdlowly drove it back to camp............it's time for lunch so broke out food and rested...............

so far we really are having a blast.
Looking for a relaxing afternoon,I took them up past armor-all,pull cable and little tellico.......................onward into the snows at the top of the mountain........it was getting cold as we lost sunlight from the ridgelines...................we turn around.....I was checking every ones senses...........honest I wasn't lost hahahah
so we hit the next left and we start to climb again..........up skyland drive...........everyone in tow..........it's absolutely beautiful...........as we drive and sight see..we hit the last junction,as I wait for the next vehicle to get to the corner...........I felt so blessed sitting on top of the mountain looking down upon the community, that had led me to this view..................thanks everyone again................

time to go to camp..........I told everyone behind me to just follow the trail and not to go fast..........and off we went 3rd gear then 4th gear low-range
we raced down the mountain and then played around driving thru some creeks etc until the rest of the group showed up.

We went to camp and said our good by's thank you's and wished some of the folks a safe journey home.....everyone else settled down, got something to drink, went to town etc..........

Then it was time to have some fun.........me greenrover ,green catii headed out for some meelower driving he followed me around in the liberty, and then we said poo on this................ and my Amigo headed into the sunset a green liberty behind me and we went on a 1 1/2 hr nightrun...........the same run we just did so he got to see it in my truck and the turtle so doing it night just plan rocked...........he tamed the 1 mile shelf road victoriuos........drive-on..
........so once again We want to thank everyone for helping bring joy to our little mountain communty.

If I have forgotten anyone or any event please fill in the blanks and I do appoligize

I am sure he was having fun right before it broke.

It looked like he never stopped having fun. Enjoyed the fix and everything. He never stopped smiling. He was thinking about all the new parts he gets to buy.

I was really expecting to hear the XJ let out a "SNAP" or "BANG" when he was bouncing. It is a bit hard to tell how steep, until he backed down and the camera looked straight down on top of him.

In the second vid, it is really hard to tell how steep the hill is.

After several years of reading Doug's posts, I finally figured out that it really helps if you hear the words in your head with William Shatner's ?Cap'n James T. Kirk? voice...

"We ---TRIED-to --climb-over --the-ROCK ---- but --NO...... it-just-wasn't-MEANT -- to-BE."

Cheers!
