ok, so after having a heated discussion with my jeep, it's begun to cooperate. the Clifford header takes every inch it can between the block and frame. the new intake fought me a bit and the throttle linkage has been the biggest obstacle so far. tonight and tommorrow i still have pretty well replace all of the fuel system and install the new wiring harness and computer. and hopefully, it'll be a monster. no know how much of a buildup this is, but it's kicked my butt all day so i decided to post some pics. ##(

WOOHOO!!!!! everything went smooth today except the wiring harness needed some tweaking and we had a close call fiting the O2 sensor. but cycled the fuel pump 4 or 5 times and she purred like a kitten with a straight header  gotta retime it and change some ignition stuff and she'll be good to go. no report on power increase yet but i know it pulled the hill with a lot less throttle than usual and feels much more smoth and responsive.

well the timing gremlin turned into a tach signal gremlin and then into a fuel problem. after a week of troubleshooting what the guys at howell told me too, they said i need to run it on a dyno and get trim numbers for them. i've suspected fuel pressure from the get go, but they swore that couldn't be it. well i went with my gut and put a guage on it to find out that my 12 psi system was well above 20 psi  . that'll do it. fixed it with a larger return line and now it's a cadillac to drive. i can make the tires scream just by nailing the throttle from a stop and it's WAY smoother and quieter during normal driving. the moral of the story is; love engineering, hate engineers

Good deal Jarret! I think the old Carter carb was your Jeep's only weakness.

well time for an update. i learned the hard way that you can't do too much when it comes to keeping water away from the computer (duh). but even though it was my fault, howell replace my comp for free (shipping too) so it only cost me 7 bucks to send the old one back. and as far as mileage goes, i haven't driven it any great distance without giving in to the temptation to romp on it. but on my short commute to school it seems to be using about have the fuel it used to which would put it close to 17-20mpg. however, i drove it 16 miles the other day and for a couple minutes i had it opened up and my overall mileage dropped to 10mpg. i guess that's what happens when your running a much more efficient system that has the capacity to flow twice what the stock carb if you want it to. i also talked to howell about mileage and they told me i could hook a laptop to my jeep and record the data while i'm driving and then send the file to them and they would fine tune my chip for me if i wanted. i thought that was pretty nice of them though i doubt i'll do it since i'm still tickled with it the way it is.

Man, that's awesome customer service right there! 8) EFI is in my FSJ's future, haven't decided between Howell or Holley yet though. Could always swap for a newer motor, but I prefer to stick with the AMC.
