Hey you all... I have been driving my brothers rover for a while and really like it. It gets sucky gas mileage, but I think I could handle the difference. I was thinking about trading him my jeep for it. I like to be different. There isn't any other lifted rovers in town, but there is tons of lifted wranglers. If I keep mine it will take me a while to have enough money for a 4" lift and tires and stuff, and the rover has everything it needs pretty much except for maybe a snorkel... Please just give me your advice?? Thanks in advance

I'll refrain from voting. I'll say that Rovers are very capable vehicles. However the cost of modification and repair exceeds that of a Jeep. Depends what you want to do with it, and how much money you have. If you want to trail ride only maybe it will be fine. If you want a rock crawler it will cost you. Maybe something to carry groceries in the snow and the rover will be fine.

Yeah, I can't vote either, they both have great qualities. The jeep has affordability when it comes to lifting But the rover will be great if your on the road alot....

And are you the one that is really wanting to trade....or is your brother wanting the Jeep?

Yes, EVERYONE has a jeep, but you can make your jeep different. That is the fun part about playing with this stuff. Whatever your vehicle will be yours, make it whatever you want. Lift, lower, slam, paint, primer, whatever you like.
My idea of a good vehicle is one that is almost bullet proof. I don't like fixing crap all of the time. With the Rover you Will learn to fix stuff. The jeep is not so bad, and should stay together for you. I am not saying the Rover is a bad vehicle, look at Derick's Rover. They are very nice and good to wheel.
The thing is you need to decide if you want to learn about what you are wheeling or get other people to fix it for you.

I had both. I loved the Rover for street use and trail. but the cost to modify it out weighed the comforts and uniqueness of having a Rover. I sold it and used the money to mod the jeep. If you have the money to put into the Rover and want to be different keep the Rover but you have to plan on spending 2 to 3 times the price on mods and have to deal with the limited number of options.

Well it looks like 6 to 1 stay away from the Rover.

Ask yourself - what don't you like about the Jeep? Then read my post in this thread:

I love my jeep, don't get me wrong. But I am not looking forward to the Soft top in the winter and don't really have the money for a hard top right now. I dont have the money to do the things I would enjoy doing to the jeep like lifting and the rover already has everything that it needs. I know it take double gas, and a lot of little things go wrong on it. I am still very confused haha. I don't want to go what Garrett went through. I think I would like a XJ on about 33's. I really don't have much money other than what I have into my jeep now. Thanks...

you don't want your brothers rover ... just be happy with what you have and make it fit your character

RRC and D1's don't cost that much anymore ... trust me i was a college student when i started building mine

Alex, if a TJ's soft top was so bad in winter, I wouldn't have sold my hardtop. Now, in a CJ and in some YJ's - you'd hate winter driving with a soft top. As long as you have full steel doors, it's hard to tell the difference between tops during cold weather.

Edit - just realized your TJ has half doors, THAT's what you should upgrade (to full steel doors), don't worry about the top.

Btw, with stock tires, my TJ got 19mpg in the city - and IMO for a powerful 6cyl 4x4 that's quite good!
