Its about time to get new tires for my 2001 4x4 Chevy silverado 1500 z71. I noticed the other day that one of my stock 16 inch rims has a small hair line crack in it. So I figured I would get both. I'm wanting to stay with the 265 size (so not to mess up my speedometer). My question is between a 16 to 20 inch rim what tire size is the cheapest I can get while retaining the stock tire height. I have looked on several differiant tire sites but am having trouble due to some not having the xd775 rockstars I'm wanting or the same all terrain tire (which is TBD). Thanks in advance

Sent ya a p.m Steve.
I have 20s on the dodge and i hate them. Tires are stupid expensive, especially any kind of all terrain or mud tire. Id go with 17s if it was me. That seems to be the new 15. There are just so many options for 17s than other tires that ive found. Im actually thinking about getting new 17" wheels for my truck because of how expensive aggressive tires are for 20s.

I would think 20's will always be more expensive than 16's.

Without a doubt 16s will be cheaper and better.

I was thinking that the 20 might be cheaper due to so many new cars coming stock with them now

Allot of cars have them, but the number of trucks and SUVs may not be as much.

20's will make your suspension work harder as there is less side wall on the tires. So your truck may have a more rough ride with 20's.

According to TireRack.com, the Rockstars are available in 18"-22" sizes.
Many of the newer GM trucks are coming with 17" wheels as the base wheel and 18" is the first step up.
17" tires that keep your stock diameter would be a 265/70R17.
18" tires that keep you VERY close to stock diameter would be a 265/70R18.

Sorry to go off topic, but I never understood why less rubber would be more expensive. Wouldn't a 15 in rim with a 35 tire have more sidewall than a 17 in rim with a 35 tire ? So why more for less?

It falls under supply and demand. If there are more people wanting ATs with 17 or 20 in wheels they will become cheaper.
