I am looking at building a custom front axle using a mitsu sr rear axle and a dana 44 front axle. I got most of the logistics f getting the 2 axles together, but having trouble with the inner axle shafts. The mitsu has a 31 spline that is 1.33in. I think this is the same as a ford 9". Anyways I am trying to figure out how to get some front shafts made at a reasonable price or even cut my shafts down and put yokes on them. Anybody gt suggestions? Thanks

"reasonable price" is a subjective term lol. Several years ago I was toying with a hybrid axle idea and did some checking. Turns out Moser (www.moserengineering.com) will make any axle shaft to your specs. IIRC, for standard OEM type alloy I was looking at around $600 for the set.

Heres my thinkin on custom axles,if you break one your gonna have to wait on a replacement to get there before you can get it back up and running.I have saw guys drive 4-5 hours to get to Harlan and then break an axle the first hour of the first day and have to sit the rest of the w/e out because they didnt have a spare. If you are running a factory lenth axle you will be alot more likely to have a spare w ya.I realize thats probably not gonna be the popular answer.
