I have a 89 jeep comanche with a 94 h.o 4.0. The cooling is still the old 89 closed cooling with the pressure jug. It does have the newer style thermostat housing. Does anyone have any input on just converting to open system with the newer style radiator or just put a inline coolent filler with a rad cap and overflow bottle? thanks wes

If you wanted to go with the overflow jug style you will have to get a different radiator. The reason that jeep has that style is because the location of the radiator is lower than the highest part of the engine. If the pressurized jug is not used in the current location a air bubble will form in the engine. The air bubble inside the cooling system will not allow the engine to run correctly. If it were mine I would repair what you have if it is messed up.

The pressure bottle cap was leaking after a ride around town. the cap was loose..., before leaving it was tight.. i did some research and most people just converted to a open system. also read that air in system will cause cap to leak. I bled the system and drove truck. all is good, no leaks! im looking ahead because i dont know how much trouble the cooling is going to give me.

the pressure bottles are prone to cracking. if you have access to the newer style cooling system i would convert it. on a positive note most jeep dealers keep the bottles in stock
