I purchased my Rubricon immediately after Jeep offered a 4 door version in 2007. Never took her off road till yesterday. As I mentioned in another post on this board, Im hooked. It was as if my Jeep came alive when we went to Coal Creek. I am very new to this and my Jeep is stock so I need some adjustments. Looking to raise her 3.5 inches, get 35" tires and new rims, brush guards, and a winch. I would love to eventually go out on weekends. I am just learning about this board but it seems pretty exciting.

Get a lift kit with progressive rate springs like rough country. It makes for a much smoother ride. Get steel rims because aluminum cracks and breaks, steel only bends. Get 8" wide rims for 12.50 wide tires so your wheels are protected some. There's a guy on ebay that sells some good rocker guards (sliders).

BTW - Welcome to Grace!

Awesome. I'm waiting on a quote from High Country 4x4 out of Boone now. I had a patient tell me about Grace several years ago but I didn't think of taking her off road then. Now Im addicted. I will definitely look into Harlan Ky and Buffalo Mtn. I live in JC. Great to meet you.

Those rocker guards off ebay are good and good priced. I put those same ones on my tj and am very happy with them. I am also looking at the rough country lift. I have heard alot of good things about them. Welcome!

I think rough country discontinued their progressive rate springs due to a lot of complaints.... they even shipped out replacement springs at no charge to anyone who asked. I think the only company that has progressive springs for the JK anymore is old man emu.

If you want to save yourself some $$ get 15" rims.... the 35's will cost about $100 less each on a 15" rim and be load range C so they will have a smoother ride as well.

btw, i've installed 4 lifts on JK's so if you want to install your own (not as hard as you might think), let me know and I'll be happy to give you some pointers.

Yeah installing a lift isn't that bad them all you have to pay for is front end alignment & your lift parts.

Thank you so much for everyones advice. I am stricken with a severe lack of automotive knowledge but am slowly learning on the job. Im curious about the steel vs aluminum rims. The quote I have is for AEV pinter aluminum rims. Ill speak with them about steel and the cost difference but that makes sense.

Steel rims from summitracing.com are about $50-$60 each with no tax and only about $12 shipping. They are much cheaper and much tougher than aluminum. If you bend one anyone with a big hammer can fix it. Also they keep the bead on the wheel better than aluminum.

The AEV wheels look nice. Are you getting the beadlock version? I'd also look at Trail-Gears Creeper Locks. They are very nice. http://www.trail-gear.com/wheels. Your JK is 5x5.5 Bolt Pattern.

I think the 4 doors look really good with 35's and a little (2-3") lift.

Take these guys up on their offers to help with lifts bumper etc.

Welcome to Grace and the Jeep thing. Don't forget to gusset your inner "C"s to keep your front axle assy from bending.

The JK is actually 5 x 5" bolt pattern. Be careful w/ the Pintlers... I know AEV has had some problems with them cracking really easy after their manufacturer moved their operation to China.

Also, most steel wheels (like the ones gubni is referring to) are still made in the USA and seem to have a much better quality control.

X2!!! If you run 35's they will bend. I didn't add them soon enough on my JK and 1 side is out of the factory specs.

Cut your flares or order a set of flat flares.... order a set of 15"Cragar Soft 8's from Summit racing.. call Hayworth tire and see if they can get you any Pro Comp Mud Terrain 35" X 12.50 x 15" blemished tires... last time I bought these they were $150.00 a piece... That should be all you need for most of the trails around here... you will also have to cut or manipulate the rear pinch seam located on both sides in front of the rear tire area...
