If anyone here pulls a camper with a jeep wrangler? We are thinking about buying a A-Liner or a Chalet camper next year and wanting to know how our jeeps will handle pulling one. They say they are the lightest campers you can buy {A-Liner is lighter than a Chalet} and popup hard shell too. We are hoping the jeeps will handle one with no trouble.
We would also like to know what the biggest camper anyone has ever pulled with no troulbe with a jeep wrangler. (weight and height )
thanks for your help
God bless you,

Does the camper have brakes? If so I would go ahead and get a controller installed in the jeep. However the popup is probably way under the limit for the jeep. 2k lbs is the limit for a SWB.

Both styles of campers have brakes. What we are needing to know is about the weight and on the chalet it's height and weight if a jeep can handle pulling one. We do not have any chalet dealers around us to go ask our questions to and see how they look next to the jeep wrangler. So we were hoping someone here could give us some info one how tall of a camper they have ever pulled with a wrangler and how much weight it was. The chalet is a somewhat taller than a a-liner but you can get one with a queen size bed where the a-liner only comes with a double bed. They both have stove, freg, air, heat, water, table, sink, lots of storage and the table makes a double bed also. You can see both kinds of popup campers at the web address below. They weigh different and the sizes are different. That's why we are trying to find out what a jeep wrangle will pull without any problems.

As long as the camper weighs under 2,000lbs you'll be fine. We have a Jayco popup that's been pulled by our '01 TJ 4.0 several times (even at 80mph before the suspension lift). It weighs 1,600lbs empty and 1,925lbs packed (stuffed to the gills  ) I installed an Olympic rock bumper in the rear of the TJ, and it has a 2" receiver built in. Just make sure to adjust the trailer ball height so that the camper tongue is almost perfectly level (when hooked up to your Rubi). In our TJ's current setup - 3" lift, 33" tires - it needs a 7" drop to make the tongue level. Remember that a Wrangler's rear end will sag quite a bit when tongue weight is added, because a YJ, TJ, or JK's suspension isn't built to carry heavy loads.
You may be wondering why a Wrangler has such a low tow rating. It isn't because of a wimpy motor - the late model 4.0 produces more hp & torque than some V8's. The problem is the short wheelbase of the Wrangler, and the fact that hardly any frame extends past the rear axle. The same design that makes a Wrangler a capable off road vehicle also creates leverage issues for towing. If you had an Unlimited Wrangler (LJ or JK 4dr), I believe they are rated up to 3,500lbs towing - reason is the longer wheelbase.
Since we bought the new van, it now handles primary towing duty for our popup.
