Have you read The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come or The Trail of the Lonesome Pine ?
Kingdom Come state park is only a little ways north of Harlan OHV.(Black Mtn)
You oughta read them before you go next time.
I just talked my wife into a "John Fox Jr." vacation. (He's the author if you haven't guessed)
"The Trail of the Lonesome Pine Scenic Byway" starts at the TN/NC line on Hwy 70, (Asheville Hwy to you Tennisseeans, Greenville Hwy to us Carolinians, About 15 minutes from my house, Hwy 25/70 n from Walnut to 208 to Belva, hang a left at the stop sign, and we're on it) then it goes through Big Stone Gap, Va. to Kingdom Come S.P. in Ky. (between Harlan and Whitesburg, KY)
Hopefully we can do it this fall. Camping and wheeling oh yeah. And She'll really dig reading the books while we sit around the campfire, learning a little local history at the same time. (yeah I know they're fiction but the stories revolve heavily around local history during the civil war and turn of the century era's)
