Do any of you guys listen to internet radio? If not you should. It's like free XM radio. I love it, but on July 15th it will cease to exist due to a crazy royalty rate hike unless we do something about it. Please call your senator and ask them to co-sponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act.

Here's the link for more info --> http://www.savenetradio.org/

Here's the link to get your senators phone number to ask him to save internet radio --> http://www3.capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/issues/alert/?alertid=9738601

The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). If the increased rates remain unchanged, the majority of webcasters will go bankrupt and silent on this date. Internet radio needs your help! The Internet Radio Equality Act has recently been introduced in both the House and Senate to save the Internet radio industry. Please call your senators and your representative to ask them to co-sponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act.

May I recommend.
Go to shoutcast.com and search for Gloryland Gospel Radio.
It's operated by my wife's grandfather, J.B. Jacobs, out of Bryson City NC.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back on here :)

Well from what ive read about it, the increase was to pay the performers so it really has more to do with the record label. The company I work for collects the royalties for the writers/composers/publishers.

I know its its a touchy subject, but you really have to think about it from an outside view. If no one paid the writers or performers do you really think people would do it full time? The music biz would be dead :(

Now I dont know how much of an increase it was as I honestly dont follow music news much as I work in the IT dept...my guess is that it will not be as large of an effect as everyone is thinking. The record companies know that if the fees are to high then no one will pay them and thus they will not make any money.

Not sure how much of this I can talk about...working for bmi is like working at the cia in how classified stuff is. But we give out real good discounts to allow people to play as much of our music as they want for a flat fee depending on how large of a station/place they are. I am sure the record companies will do the same thing.
