Anyone have experience changing out an alt in a 96 Cherokee? who ever wrote the Haynes manual for this obviously has never actually taken one out lol. I got it all unhooked finally, but I don't see any way in hades its coming out without pulling the radiator and possibly the clutch fan, or taking the A/C pump off. it just don't fit. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Slide it backwards out the bottom. Towards the starter.

I got it figured out now lol. I had to pull the battery tray off and the clutch fan then it fell right out. I got the new one in, now I just need to get the belt on fun fun. Thanks for the tip Hadfield!

Might be something you already know but there is an adjuster pully you can tighten and loosen and it makes changing a belt a walk in the park. If I remember right when you pop the hood its on the top of the motor closest to the rad. on the drivers side beside power steering pully (I think not sure its been a little bit since my XJ) Matt if Im wrong please correct me :)!!

All depends on the year. The adjustment on my '90 is the PS pump.

On mine the adjuster is is located on the side of the power steering pump. you loosen the 15mm bolt on the idler pulley then use the screw by the p/s pump to tighten or loosen the belt.

Be carefull not to over tighten it. IF you do a water pump will be in your near future. The proper tightness is pretty loose.
