I've had 2 driveshafts modified at Ferguson's. One is the rear shaft on our TJ - it was originally a Rubicon Express shaft that I ordered too short, so I had it extended to the correct length. Ferguson's did good work, except that their welds looked too cold and not adequately penetrated. After wheeling the TJ hard for a couple years after the SYE, the driveshaft has held up very well.
The front driveshaft on my FSJ was too short for the 7" SOA lift, so I had Ferguson's extend it to my specs as well. The welds on the FSJ shaft appeared much better than the TJ's shaft they modified. Low and behold I found out the hard way that the (t-case side) weld did NOT penetrate - in the middle of a side "play" area at Bumpus (starts at the big turn after the Jeepster spot). I doubt anyone got pictures of this, but you're welcome to ask Gordon, Jarret, Chris (AMSting), or Phil....as they were all witnesses and helped extract my Jeep out of the trail. Not only was the weld not penetrated, it wasn't even on seam. disgust
Moral of the story? If you need gear or axle work done, Ferguson's has a good reputation for that. Just don't ask them to do anything that involves welding :!: Give me 5 days and I can teach my 6yr old daughter to MIG weld better than that! :?
