I just stole this truck. No not litterally, but the price was so low it was almost like it.
88 4runner, 3" lift, 4.56 gears, detroit locker in rear, ARB front bumper, heavy duty rear bumper with tire carrier, and great condition 33's, SR5 guages, timing belt 17k ago, HD clutch 30k ago, U joint conversion front chromoly axles
Need new rear shocks - broken off on both at the lower eyes and no rear brakes. It's been rarely driven over the last couple of years so need minor attention and clean up on some other details too, but much better than most. Tailgate window switch doesn't work. Most of the paint is gone from the hood and rust hole in one fender.
mods - install CB and winch - new paint - sliders

i ended up rewiring my rear tail gate window to a switch in the center console. i rewired my other windows at the same time. from my experience its the connections in the switchs that go bad and not the motor. the switch idea was great because it worked without needing a key. so when sleeping in that back while camping it was easy to shut rear window.
again nice find.... i miss mine
nice find, you taking it and the jeep to harlan?

nice runner. im guessing ball joint spacers and an AAL or shackle ouit back?
It has newer tubular upper A arm. There is not a balll joint spacer. Not sure if that drops it any since it has factory lower arm. It has a high angle upper ball joint. The inner axle shaft connects to the diff like a 2wd transmission then a Ujoint and a CV at the outter to the stub.
Today we had some problems with it. The adjuster sleeve from the inner to outter TRE was adjusted past the safe point. This caused it to come off in a bad spot. After an hour or so we got it back together. We put in more threads to make it a little better. This caused the front tires to both be pointed inward a little. On the trail is was ok, but on the road it limited speed to about 15mph. In order to get it set up right for the trip home we bought two 22mm wrenchs and lowered the front by adjusting the torsion bars about 2" which mostly straighted the front tires. Also when in 4wd it seemed like the front axle wasn't pulling right. I wonder if the ujoints were binding or maybe there is another problem. Any advise on the proper way to fix it?
On the rear there is a AAL and a shackle. I'm not sure what needs to be done, but it scrubs the flares when it flexes. I'm guessing it needs more shackle.
Other than those problems with the lift it did really well. The rear locker did great and it run well after maintenance.
done: front calipers, front pads, rear shoes, rear wheel cylinders, rusted up rear e-brake levers, oil change, air filter, removed seat covers
needed: high beam switch, fox light switch, new ignition switch, and other minor interior stuff

I learned a little about the front suspension. It's a rancho kit combined with Downey slip yoke axles. Both are discontinued. 10 years ago it was top of the line and allows for 11" of travel. The rancho arms are 3" drop. I am going to try to get it working as it should.
I found some TRE adjusters for a toyota corona are about 6 5/8 long where as the adjusters I have now are about 5 1/4". The threaded area between the two TREs is about 7 1/2" so that would be perfect to make it safe to drive. $30 has a set here Wednesday.
Here's a link to a thread about this lift.

Although I got my adjusters from a different source, they can be gotten from Rare Parts 209-948-6005 Contact Ted Armendez part number RP26208

I have an old Rancho lift that came off of my truck. Does it have a 22RE or 3.slow V6?

i misread the first post and thought it said ARB front locker, but you said bumper. you need my Spartaaaannn!!!!!!!! i got some 4.88s to. but IMO 4.88 may be more trouble than its worth since you got 4.56s.
ive heard of those 3in Downey lifts, i very rarely see them them floatin around on the yotatech boards. does it have a diff drop in teh front to compensate the 3in lift?

The diff is stock height which is an advantage to this kit.
I've thought about your spartan, but I don't want to break anything on this lift since I can't get parts for it any more and I don't plan for it to be used in 4wd that much.

Ok time to get this thing fixed up. I want to make it my backup vehicle and winter driver.
1. replace left front fender
2. fix rocker panel rust - maybe recess in tubing to double as sliders
3. replace or repair rust on fiberglass top
4. repair exhaust leak behind motor but not in exhaust
5. low oil pressure (possible bad sensor - moves very slow)
6. started smoking rarely at a stop light when I take off
7. replace vynal front seats with cloth seats
8. replace missing rear seatbelt
9. fix rust hole in driver floor board
10. problem starting when it sits for a few days like dead battery (probably bad contact or relay)
11. fix front suspension where TRE adjuster hits frame
12. fix excess body roll
13. fix sloppy steering
14. check for leaks and fix if found
17 cheap paint job
18 I'l like to have a simple roof rack to carry a ladder
I have already done
1. complete brake job
2. swapped power steering gear box
3. oil change
4. replaced ignition and new keys
5. new rear shocks

I replaced the steering gear box with one that has less slop and put new goodyear 33" tires on new rims. I got 5 so I can rotate out the spare.

That's a great winter driver/wheeler. I wish I still had my 89 4Runner. That thing was awesome and just bone stock.
