I spent some time today washing and waxing my car. I washed it using Meguiar's gold class car wash and followed it with the new

turtle wax ice wax + turtle wax detail spray. (you don't have to use the spray, but if you spray the hazed wax, it comes off easier and is supposed to increase shine - so says the packaging anyway)

Check out the results :-D

I think it turned out pretty good.

Hey, Bubba says "come on over" - he's waiting.

Actually, it looks like a great job. I have never been much on anything but washing off the dirt. Maybe once a year wax with whatever's on sale, and that's only on the GMC & Saturn. Bubba & the XJ just will have to wait.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum :P . I research and try to find out what the best products are when it comes to shining up a vehicle.

The turtle wax stuff was supposed to be easy to get off, but I still considered it a workout lol. Although it shines good, it doesn't have the "slick" feeling that most waxes give. It would fail the "towell test" haha.

On a detailing forum a while back I remember reading that it wasnt rated that well overall.....you wanna get some good stuff try the Sonus brand or the Klasse brand.....have both and by far the best I have used for detailing stuff.

I've already got good paint, so the wax probably isn't doing that much to help out the shine.

I've never heard of the brands you mentioned, but I'm sure they're good. The stuff a lot of guys rave about is a product called Zaino.

Evidently it takes more work, but produces amazing results (especially on dark cars). Its supposed to be expensive, but once you buy it, it lasts a really long time.

Here are some pics from people who have tried it (http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=TESTIMONIALS)

I may buy some of this stuff next time around.

Ya I have heard of Zaino....but IMO detailing your car should not be hard...it should be easy to apply and take off... and have long lasting results.....or at least longer than your standard turtle wax varieties.....

I have bought quite a bit of stuff from www.properautocare.com
They are a top rate company and sell awesome products and supplies for detailing....highly recommend them. And again...pick something thats easy to apply and take off....cause there are top notch polishes/waxes out there that are that way...

With my Menzerna Klasse system its really easy to take off.....and lasts longer than the many others I have used. Just my .02c.

Do you think that stuff would work on my flat black, flat grey, and flat white paint?

I don't know about that. Most stuff says it works "on today's car finishes" meaning you're actually waxing/sealing the clearcoat - not the actual paint.

This may sound dumb to a lot of people, but back when i had my old car and the paint had faded badly, I would put on a thin layer of baby oil and that car would look awesome.

The oil would eventually attact dirt and need to be washed off, but it would look good for a while

On most of the trails I go on I use BMCW to detail my jeep. It doesn't leave the best shine but it goes on thick and leaves about 1/32" of protection from limbs etc. However most of it washes off with the first rain. But I usually throw another coat on before I go wheeling.

Now the clincher, if I scratch my paint I get a new can for .96 at wal-mart, and repaint. Totally restoring that new car look. What does this stuff run? I really understand this is for cars with real paint jobs, but it is fun to tease.

Only places I've seen BMCW is in kport and in Harlan. But I'm sure you could find some similar stuff in NC. Usually costs less than $5.

I've yet to find a wax that can truly be classified good for a 4x4, gloss powder coat comes close. On the other hand maybe I should not be asking the Grace community as we all know we are wheelers, I'll start asking "jeep" guys I run into at the mall what they use.

Black Magic Car Wax

WOW you actually found something that would really fit and is really a wax

The BMCW i was refering to is Bays Mountain Creek Water and or Black Mountain Creek Water. It's that thin layer of mud that protects my paint. :)
