might be a dumb question but did you check the thermostat. you didn't state whether you did or not above. is there any coolant in the oil?

didnt seem to be any coolant in the oil that i could tell and im changin out the thermostat today im gonna run a cooler one in it than whats in it now & if that dont work ima do away with the thermastat all together until i get some money saved up then im gonna get a new radiator and fan and see what happens i sure hope the head isnt cracked ot nothin but doesnt seem to be truck use to run fine i mean it ran a little on the hot side if i were parked or at a redlight but would cool off when u drove it not no matter what ya do it doesnt cool off unless u leave it parked with the engine off for about an hour or so

im wanting to say it is out of a 75 ford truck everything i have ordered for it is been for a 75 except for the alternator and its for an 89 as for the motor being v-belt its not it was converter over to a serp. belt to the best of my knowledge as for what the motor came out of not really sure on the year i know it had a truck oil pan on it before it was put in my truck but as for what it came out of i never thought to even ask

If it's a 75 motor that has been converted to serpentine most likely your water pump is going the wrong way.

thanks all of you for your help and if that is the case gubni how do i fix that? does that mean i would have to go back to a v-belt setup or what because i dont have the v-belt pulleys

Do I understand that you said it used to cool fine then it started runnign hot? Or has it always done this?

its always a little hot but now it seems to be gettin hotter then a fire cracker im trying to determine wich way the water pump on my truck is suppose to spin thats on it now so i can see if its turnin backwards or not then if its turnin right onlything left is the rad and fan UPDATE just put in a 160 degree thermostat and still same thing takes it a lil longer to run hot but still the same issue

I hate to me a pain but your posts are hard to read.
How hot is it getting?
How hot was it before?
They explained it above. Does it have a serp belt? If so it needs the newer pump like Horton said. If it only has the original v-belt then the original pump is what you need.
Horton knows his stuff. He'll get you in the right direction with this.
Since it has always run hot when the swap was done was a new rad put in? You may need soemthing more efficient to get it to normal levels, but you should fix what is broken first, then upgrade as needed.
The thermostat temp only determines what temperature it opens at. Other than that all the openings are the same. A thermostat will not cure an over heating engine unless it's bad and won't open.

alright sorry if im confusing yall let me try and break it down the 302 is over heating i dont know what degree it is running because i am using a hot & cold temp guage instead of a far. or celc. guage it has a new water pump,(turning clock wise like it should),new thermostat(160 degree),New hoses it has a serpentine belt setup with the alternator mounted on the driverside instead of the passenger(to get away from having to buy a reversible water pump because they are quiet expensive)its runnin what looks to be about 12" or so electric fan(that is mounted behind the grille instead of in between the motor and radiator and i just noticed that its a puller instead of a pusher there for i need to move it inside the engine bay instead of behind the grille(my mistake) i cant run a mechanical fan because i only have about 1" of clearance from my water pump pulley to my radiator hope this helps cut out the confusion thanks all of you for taking the time to try and help me figure out this stuggle

im pretty sure its a 2.9 v6 rad its narrow width wise and as for vertical its the same length as a standard ranger radiator but im only running one fan also...im out of ideas on this one

I will defer to Horton's Ford knowledge on this. Is there a shroud focusing air through the rad?
Also I assume by what you said you are trying to pull air through the front instead of push it correct?
Also can you post pics so we can see with what you're dealing with?

could have air in it. especially after replacing something on it. i've experienced this several times after opening up the cooling system.
