I posted awhile back a question about Samurai's, mileage and weight to be towed behind a small RV. A friend of mine located one, a Tin Top, '88 yr with a crate motor. he said it only had 6000 miles on the motor. Question is the guy who owns it says it quits running once it gets hot ##( . Any ideas? I thought maybe a bad coil but what do I know!?! :?: Fellow says he hasn't driven it since the problem started. Wants $2000 for it.

Going to look at it this afternoon, wanted to maybe work out a trade but I'm worried I can't get it up and running dependable enough for a DD by Monday.

Does it have a sidekick engine in it? I think it could possibly be a fuel problem. Its only running when the choke is on. I'd get it. Then replace the carb with a MY-side http://zuksoffroad.com/products/MY-SIDE.htm
It uses a Harley carb to use on the samurai motor. Its supposed to be really good for running at all angles without stalling. I think I am going to get rid of my Weber and get one of these. mainly because it would then be alot easier to hook up my snorkle.

I don't know much about it yet, I was going to look at it on my way home from work but something urgent came up so I had to scoot home fast  . I'm hoping to get to look at it maybe Monday.

How can you tell if it's a sidekick motor?

eerrrr ummm wellll If its a sidekick motor with fuel injection the intake goes off to the Left side of the vehicle. If its a stock motor then the intake goes to the right. On the stock engine the motor mounts are Identical. On the Sidekick swap kit, one of the motor mounts has a relocation bracket. There are a couple of other things but I can't recall them at the moment.

1.6 uses a serpentine groove belt versus a vbelt on a 1.3 and a 1.6 doesn't have a fuel pump. 2 easiest way to tell at a glance.

ahh yes I knew that. except I think the later model samurais didn't have a engine driven fuel pump due to the fuel injection, but i may be wrong.

Thanks for all the info, hopefully I will get to look at it today, Had a real bad weekend due to Family issues with my step-daughter, So God willing I get to see the truck today. I got a glance at it from a distance as I drove by. Looked ok from what I could see, but who knows what the thing will look like up close. But then it's a 19 year old truck.

I got to look at the Sammi last night. What a piece of junk it turned out to be. Only worth is if you parted it out. NOT worth $2000 the fellow is asking for it by a large margin! Guess I keep looking.

Body had old damage that was bondoed and it was cracked and falling off, rust in areas along floor/rocker panels. For what I'm looking for I need one I can get in and drive as a "DD" right away not spend weeks trying to get it up and running. The guy who own's it wasn't there but a friend of his let me look it over. I never got to look at the engine.
