I made a very bad judgement call last week at work. Please pray that I can weather the repercussions and God's will will be done.:eusa_pray:

Yes, indeed.
Will do. We have a tough job and there really isn't ever a small decision in our field. Call me if you need to talk about it.

You got it.
And thank you for what you do as a fire fighter.

Thanks. I really enjoy my job and now I'm worried about losing it over a stupid decision.
Hano, I've been a medic/engineer for almost six years now and been on almost 10 years.

I've always look for honesty and abiity to admit a mistake in my employees.

When they did the investigation, I told them the 100% truth. I didn't pull any punches. The more I talked the worse it sounded.

You did the right thing by being honest and now it is time for your supervisors to do the right thing and help make a change so the mistake does not happen again by working out what caused it; could be stress, new incident, new procedures, etc. Maybe think ahead and figure out what caused it... going in with your own possible solution shows responsibility..

I know exactly what caused it.
My captain is a Medic also and he was with me on the truck that night. Paramedics get a 20% pay raise over non-medic firefighter and another 20% for being assigned to a front line rescue unit. If a paramedic/driver(engineer) makes captain you actually take a 10% pay cut because you lose the 20% for being assigned to a front line truck but you get 10% for making captain.
We are so short paramedics that the first thing that is done in the morning to save on overtime people is they detail every medic captain to a rescue truck. So basically your getting paid less to do the same job plus you are responsible for the actions of the engine and all the paper work( ie business inspections, school inspections, hydrants) that goes with the engine also.
My captain has such a bad attitude about being detail that it affects everyone around him. I guess I wasn't a strong enough person to no be affected by the constant negativity. My regular partner gets detailed somewhere else everyday and I have had to ride with him every third day for 24 hours for the last year. We are the second busiest truck in the city averaging 10-12 calls per shift.
I have lived my life in 36hr blocks for 2 1/2 years now and it all just caught up at the same time.

Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Thx George

If possible engage your supervision so that it is very clear to you what the discipline is for that way you will know what was incorrect... with that new information, you can do better in your role. As a former EMT, I know that there is a lot of field decisions and getting some clear direction is a plus.

Sound advice - however, during my career in the corporate world, there was entirely too much "feel good" garbage going on - middle & upper mgmt wanted things to be grey, so that scapegoats could be found, if need be. I hate to come across too negative, but in the corporate environment today, getting definitive direction often does not happen and/or is difficult to get nailed down. I also was not overly fond of HR - they are not the employee's friend, but rather the executive's. An employee's only friend is first-line mgmt. Companies will view employees as liabilities. Please keep in mind that I am mainly referring to larger corporations, not small businesses.
